Theyattack by scratching withtheir nails but arebasically defenselessagainst a determinedattacker. They have nomagical powers and thepresence of a bansheeusually indicates a greaterdanger ahead. Be warned fortheir screams are said tocause intense head pain andalert their masters.DEMONS are creatures thatoriginate on another planeof existence. There areseven planes apart from theMaterial plane on which wedwell. Indeed, if we couldtravel to one of these otherplanes then we too would beclassed as demons. Chaos isa basic demon trait and itis simply for amusement thatthey come to our plain towreak havoc. They can alsobe summoned with magic andforced to carry out tasksfor the summoner. All demonsare at least moderatelypowerful. Some are extremelypowerful and if theyattacked en masse they couldconquer the world. Luckilydemons generally don't getalong. The most commonones are Elemental Demonsand Succubi. Elementaldemons come from one of theelemental planes and havepowers associated with thatelement. For example Firedemons can throw fire atwill. Succubi use seductionto get their victims in avulnerable positionwhereupon they use theirclaws to rip him limb fromlimb. They appear asbeautiful humans havingfirst induced a deep sleepin their victim.Elemental demons appear as asolid mass of their elementand the key to theirdestruction is usually theopposite element.GHOSTS are non-materialentities that usually workfor a powerful magic userwith the promise that theywill be restored to life fortheir service. Ghosts arethe spirits of people thatdied in an extremely violentway, with great pain. Theyattack with a touch of icewhich saps strength andhealth and is known to beextremely disconcerting.Because of theirnon-material state they canonly be damaged with magic.Fortunately, they areextremely weak when attackedin this way.GHOULS are undead creatureswho have the unique abilityto paralyze living creatureswith a touch. They are moreintelligent than animatesand zombies and are capableof some independent thought,although they are usuallycontrolled by a magic userof some sort. They are quitetough and fairly hard tokill, but they have nomagical powers. When theyare not attempting toparalyze, they tend toattack very quickly with adagger.GIANT RATS have evolved deepbeneath the ground, out ofsight of humans. They aremany times the size ofnormal rats and theirpowerful jaws can causeserious damage. They are notvery tough but can withstanda lot of damage and do notpresent much of a problem.Beware, some carrycontagious diseases.HAGS are evil women who havedevoted their lives tomalice. They have beenrewarded with powerful magicand cursed with physicaldeformity. Once past theirmagical defenses it isfairly easy to defeat themas they have weak bodies.They usually use lightningbolts to kill their enemies.IMPs are best described assmall, green humanoids witha nasty disposition. Theyare actually humans cursedwith green skin who werecondemned many years ago andleft the surface to liveunderground. Do notunderestimate them theunderground life is not easyand a normal imp is muchstronger and tougher than ahuman. Imps are mastersmiths and have crafted highquality weapons and armourwith which to defendthemselves. They usuallylive in clans of about 150individuals which rule acertain section of theunderworld.INSECTS, or moreparticularly giant insects,are created from theirsmaller cousins by magic.They can quickly populate alarge area with offspringwhich provide an excellentdefense. Their qualitiesvary greatly from weak tostrong. They will usuallywin through by weight ofnumbers alone. Below are anumber of insects that havebeen discovered in theirlarger form. Beware as theytend to have special powersnot seen in the smallerversions.ANTS tend to be found in thegreatest numbers. They arethe least dangerous and theeasiest to dispatch as thetransformation processweakens their exoskeleton.Their method of attack is tofire globs of acid fromtheir tails. This acid ishighly corrosive tonon-organic matter.GIANT SPIDERS are extremelyuncommon as the spider ishighly resistant to growthmagic. The spell rarelyworks but the results areastonishing and have anextreme effect. By far thebiggest of the giant insectsis the spider. They are verypowerful and tough and areextremely poisonous andhighly resistant to magic.GRUBS are very big and nastycreatures which have razorsharp mandibles andbone-crushing strength. Theycan survive a lot of damagebut have a very low magicalresistance. They look andmove like a giantcaterpillar.MOSQUITOS, while being merepests in normal size, areincredibly dangerous inlarger form. They attack byextending their probosciinto the victim and draininghis blood. They must bedestroyed quickly afterpenetration as their poisonsoon leads tounconsciousness.NYMPHS are huge, aquaticinsects which jealouslyguard their underwaterdomain. They will viciouslyattack intruders with theirjaws which are verypowerful. Fortunately, theirexoskeleton has beenweakened by underwater life,making them easy targets.SCORPIONS are one of themore deadly insectivores,especially in giant form.They are very big and theirtails are wickedly barbed.Whilst quite weakphysically, they doincredible amounts ofpoisonous damage.Fortunately, due to theirhuge bulk, they move veryslowly and sometimes not atall.WASPS are very fast flyinginsects which attack quicklyand then withdraw. Theirsting is quite painful andsometimes poisonous.
