DOSBox DVD Installer for
	             The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery

This installer is provided free with no guarantee, what so ever. It merely provides a Windows shortcut, config files and icons to allow your copy of "The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery" to run automatically in DOSBox. It can install the latest DOSBox for you. DOSBox can be updated simply by installing newer versions in the same location after uninstalling or moving the old version. 

This installer will copy and join the resources from all 6 original CDs to your hard drive. It comes with a utility that will prepare the installed folder (complete with new AutoRun) for burning to DVD with your favorite CD/DVD burning program, such as Nero. The folder should then be deleted. The game can then be reinstalled, either full hard drive install (no disc required to play) or minimal install (DVD required to play, but no disc swapping). 

This installer makes use of the UniSCI tool, developed by Enrico Rolfi (Endroz) for his Gabriel Knight 2 DVD installer. "The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery" for Windows is not playable on some versions of modern Windows. Windows XP and Vista do not have DOS, built instead have an imperfect DOS emulator, which has very flawed sound emulation. 

Endroz developed his new Windows installer with patches for the Gabriel Knight bugs. It fixes most problems with GK2 under XP, but relies on the Windows version. This makes it impossible to play on some versions of Windows. If you have 64 bit version of Windows, you MUST run the DOS version in DOSBox, since the Windows version of the game will not play (no 16 bit code will run natively in x64 Windows.) Some Vista users may have issues with the full screen that Endroz uses with his installer. 

DOSBox provides the ideal solution for many of Sierra's classic DOS games. It provides the environment that the games were written for. It shields you from the many timer bugs that plague these games on modern PCs. While it is relatively easy to use and there is help, such as various guides and frontends, many feel intimidated by the task of setting the games up in DOSBox. This installer Automates the process. No manual configuration is needed. Just insert your "Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery" CD 1 into your CD drive and run this installer.  Replace with each of the following 5 CDs as asked.

DOSBox is required to play "The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery". This installer will automatically setup the game to run in DOSBox, but you must have DOSBox installed in a folder named "DOSBox" in your "Program Files"* folder. 

* NOTE: Most users' %ProgramFiles% is "C:\Program Files" for 32 bit Windows or "C:\Program Files (x86)" for 64 bit.

If DOSBox is not installed in %ProgramFiles%\DOSBox, be that you are online when you run this installer to allow it to download and install DOSBox for you.DOSBox can be upgraded by installing any future versions of DOSBox into this same location after uninstalling or simply moving the old one.
