To install the patch:
Copy the patch files into the game directory on your hard drive. 
(C:\SIERRA\GK2DOS for the DOS version or C:\SIERRA\GK2WIN for the
Windows version.) When asked, overwrite any existing files. After
the files are copied, play the game normally.

This patch is released "as is" without any kind of warranty.
By using it, you are considering the author not responsible of any
damage caused directly or not by the usage of this game patch.
The author is no way related to Sierra On-Line and so is this patch
which has been made with my own knowledge and therefore might not be
what you're looking for. Please consider contacting Sierra if you're
experiencing any serious problem with the game.




PAQ - POSSIBLY ASKED QUESTIONS


1. WHAT IS THIS PATCH FOR?

The ONLY purpose of this patch is to remove interlacing (black lines)
in videos from the game.


2. I DIDN'T QUITE UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN...

The videos in Gabriel Knight II: The Beast Within have been encoded
in a very small resolution due to the limitations of the time.
Therefore they need to be 'doubled' when put on screen. During this
process, black horizontal lines (aka interlacing) are added alternately
to image lines. If you want an example of what interlacing looks like,
just take a look at the two Jpeg sample images in this folder.
I don't know if this has been put by programmers in the first place
for slowest computer or for making compressed movies look better,
anyways I don't like it so I decided to make my own patch to disable
this suspected 'feature'.


3. WHAT SHOULD I DO IN ORDER TO USE IT?

All you have to do is put the "11.hep" and "11.scr" files into the game
folder on your hard disk. You should choose these files according to the
language of your game - English or Italian&Spanish.


4. THE VIDEOS IN THE GAME ARE STILL INTERLACED. WHY?

Check the configuration from the "RESOURCE.WIN" file. Make sure that
"patchDir=" is pointing to the game directory on your hard disk:

            patchDir=CD:\PATCHES; CD:\; C:\SIERRA\GK2WIN


5. I HAVE A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE VERSION OF GK2. WILL THE PATCH WORKS?

In short, no. Please contact me if you need this patch for, say, the
German version or any other version than English, Spanish and Italian.


6. I HAVE THE SAME INTERLACE PROBLEM IN GAME X. WILL THAT DO?

No. The patch is ONLY intended to be used with Gabriel Knight 2.


7. EVEN IF INTERLACED, VIDEOS LOOKS CLEANER WITHOUT YOUR PATCH. WHY?

It is just an optical illusion caused by the black lines. Maybe that's
why Sierra programmers used interlacing in the game. But I still don't
like it that way. If you prefer the old-fashion look just remove the
two patch files from the game folder.


8. ARE YOU GOING TO FIX OTHER GK2 BUGS?

I'm not aware of any serious bug in the game which has not been already
fixed by Sierra. If you do know one please let me know.


9. YOU'RE THE SAME GUY WHO'S FIXING BUGS FROM GK, AREN'T YOU?
