This is Apple Legacy Recovery disc dated October 1999. This CD includes most items designed for classic Macintosh computers such as Mac OS, A/UX software, peripherals, and applications. It also includes the software for Apple II, Apple Lisa, Apple Newton, drivers for DOS/Windows, and more.
This disc has the bootable volume, Mac OS 7.6.1, and works fine for most 680x0 Macintoshes and early Power Macintosh computers as well for the Mac OS emulators.
The download link above is the link for downloading this disc in form of .iso, which is burnable in PC or Mac. While this disc is no longer part of AppleCare Support Professional Tools, this disc is still for evaluation purposes only.

Hello, i downloaded this but when i try to open an install disk for System 7 with Mini vMac, it says the disk is corrupt. Any Help?

You can always boot into BeOS or Haiku-OS and use cdrecord. cdrecord is a command line util for burning CDs and is part of the cdr-tools package. That would help you avoid having to use Windows on your PC/AT-Compatable Computer (since unfortunately PowerISO is windows software).
This CD rocks, my old Colour Classic finally runs with Mac OS 7.1 again.
To burn this image file with a PC, you need the software "PowerISO".
I've tried it with several other utilities, and always a "Unknown format" comes up.

I actually just took one go at it from the copy I kept.
However, S3 is so expensive that you must upload it to a new mirror now or the main S3 mirror might also be suspended.

To be honest I would be more than happy to set up a hotline server in the near future for people to use as a file store/swap...
If anyone could give me an idea on how to do it and what the best (cheap) hardware to do it with (preferably mac!) then I will give it a go.
My internet is on a dynamic IP however as I host my own e-mail through SBS 2011 it keeps the DNS updated with go daddy so no problems there.

Its not specially adapted for PBs though. Maybe some floppy swapping is required.
Off: Any proceedings about a more permanent file swap thing? Knez HL might work to some extent, but he is not too happy about only acting as a secondary file server for the Garden.
Also I have come across some very powerful wired servers recently. In any case one has to apply for an account. Give and take, that is. Taking seems to work well already, giving still seems to need some practice for some.
24bit: Possibly not at that point. I run the US version of SSW 7.1.1 on various machines and BII and it only offers the option of a US keyboard & curiously, a US SSW 6 keyboard layout, what ever that means. But otherwise US keyboard layout only. Default installs tho' IIRC.

While waiting, you can use "Option + 3" keys to generate a '£' sign in a US Mac OS

Used to be on these classics Macs all the time when I was at school... now starting to get really back into it but finding the best system software is proving to be difficult haha!
The images were taken from the Legacy. I might look on the Anthology ´99 for 7.1 GB.
Hi 24bit, thank you ever so much for this. Have installed it fine however the locale and keyboard is US with no options to change it to GB/UK
so no '£' signs etc.
I'll carry on looking but at least its running nice and fast compared to 7.5.5 which I had it running off the Apple Support site.

Are these recovery CDs held anywhere else for download?
I really want a British-English copy of Mac OS 7.1 for my Powerbook 180C as I don't have the original install disks.

Galane has the same CD above, except Galane has the 1998 version part number 600-6684, the contents of the Galane's CD different than the 1999 one.
Do you have the 1998 Edition of Legacy Recovery or Software Recovery CDs to be uploaded?

Hmm, this would be a raw ISO, so some programs may complain about it.

I tried downloading this from both RapidShare and MediaFire. In both cases the md5sum comes out as4354f0fc58dffdec6e4bd425a514e720 and I can't mount it. Could I get a copy from somebody who has a non-corrupted version?

My downloaded copy of "Apple_Legacy_CD.iso" (downloaded from Megaupload) has an MD5SUM identical with your posted MD5SUM, but when I open the ISO with my CD burning application (K3B, version 1.05), I get an error that the ISO seems to not be a usable image, and K3B refuses to work with it. I then tried opening that ISO with KISO, and get the same error. I then opened AcetoneISO, it also refuses to work with that ISO and says 'not usable'.
Anyone have any ideas how to burn this (or any other) Macintosh CD when running Linux?
I think macgeek417's are uploaded and store these files from very short period since November in DropBox, but starting December 02, 2009, the first two SSW Recovery ISOs are deleted due for copyright reasons. I have only SSW Recovery CD 1 iso file on my laptop archives, and the SSW Recovery CD 2 are now stored in Demonoid because no luck to go there because it's offline now.
CD's 1 and 2 don't work.....i'm getting a 404 error
If you install them in such disks, the installer will say the install disk is not correct.

Disk Copy doesn't seem to like the checksum on those images and won't mount them, but they seem to work fine if you mount them with ShrinkWrap.
Here some corrupted disks:
Install Disk 8 in PowerBook 5300 Install
Install 7 in MacOS 7.6
I've downloaded this two or three times now and found that one of the disk image files is corrupt.
It's floppy disk number 7 of the OS 7.6 floppy set.
Can anyone else confirm this?
I've got round this by using the floppy disk images from an OS 7.6 CD instead.
I took the 1999 date from the readme file on the CD, but as far as I know this is the same as the 1998 set.
Here's the relevant part of the "readme" file describing each CD in this four volume set:
"About the Apple Software Recovery CDs...
Apple Application Software Recovery CD (CD 1)
• Contents: Most Apple-branded application software, such as AppleShare File Server, At Ease, and Language Kit software; all Apple peripheral software.
• Start Up Capability: None; it is designed to install application software over an existing installation of System Software.
• Requirements: System Software 7.0.1 or greater.
Apple System Software 1 Recovery CD (CD2)
• Contents: Apple System Software (Mac OS) for all PowerPC 601, 603, and 604 based Macintosh computers and all Macintosh computers with Apple PowerPC upgrades.
Apple System Software 2 Recovery CD (CD 3)
• Contents: Apple System Software (Mac OS) for all PowerPC G3 based Macintosh computers (including iMac) released as of May, 1999.

thanks trying it now have a bunch of LC580 macs hanging around that wont boot to any disk i have
the disk images in the cd don't work with mini vmac, if you want to use them you have to convert the in disk copy to the disk copy format for them to mount under mini vmac
