great i was looking for this but can someone put the cd image on the page
IIGS Delivers!!!
nice one...
The bottom five files has been re-uploaded.
wazeem, try Software Update (in the Control Panels), it should get you the right Carbon Lib Update (probably 1.6).
Some .app files do work in OS 9 if Carbon Lib is installed
yeh but it could be me not taking the time to read things properly, seems like I need to download and install that Carbon update thing from Apple. My PPC OS9.1 is running Carbon 1.1.1 - but I don't know how to run an ".app" file in OS9.1 anyway. You may throw custard pies at me now *grimaces in readyness*
Thanks to ALL MacAddicts who have contributed to vandalize (in a GOOD WAY ) this post.
BTW The Appleworks for Windows XP version works fine.
Independent of that comment, I've found some other AW6 installer downloads:
http://download.nides.bc.ca/Software/Mac/
darn it another download that didn't run. I've downloaded AppleWorks 6.2, Carbonized version
Appleworks 6.2 Carbon.sit (17.51 MB) to run on my PPC OS9.1 - but it don't!? I get the AppleWorks 6.app file but running it says, wrong OS
Added Windows Installer and Updater to 6.2.2. I know this works very well under WinXP. Let me know if the fonts are not included, and I will post them too.
I saw the disc that has this the other day (one disc, in at least 200). It is (I believe) an updater that installs the entire program, and a folder of TTF fonts. I'll find it. If I have to search the internetz again, I'll find it!!
YES! Please post the PC version,
THANKS!
Could be of interest, because it is veeeeery rare as well...
This is one of the most epic uploads on this site. Please quit griping about the Simp. Chinese version. The simple fact is, this is a pretty complete collection of a very useful and popular Apple integrated app suite.
PS. I have the TTF fonts saved separately for those willing to try the PC version. I believe the installer is still freely available (as an updater), but does not contain the fonts, making ALL the templates USELESS.
Pls let me know if you wish to post a PC version on this page as well...
Sheepy, please check whether this Mediafire link is working for you:
http://www.mediafire.com/?vtknokt3pvv1t
This one should include both german attempts.
YES! That upgrade way is still working.
An untouched install made in SheepShaver can be upgraded to 6.2.9 PPC if the upgrade installer finds it in the root folder of startup volume. Rosetta cares about running the app on Intel very nice.
You could probably copy the installment out of SheepShaver to the Mac OS X host system and update it from there. For me, I've copied the AppleWorks 6 installment at its time from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X PPC, then I've moved it to my current Mac OS X 10.6 system.
Is it possible to create a OSX install from the German .CDRs?
The versions (6.2.9) seem to be equal, but there sure is some catch...
Apple Works D-6.2.9 runs perfectly with SheepShaver OS D-9.0. Many thanks again.
IIGS - thanks a lot for the upload, this really helps a lot. Herzlichen Dank!
Such a pity Apple decided to discontinue Apple Works. I always felt it was closing the gap between simple editors like TextEdit and the ever-growing MS Office suite. Apple Works was capable of doing most of the things that the average person wanted to do - plus doing it in a non-painful way. Thanks Apple for killing another great project :-/
@ IIGS_User: Danke für die deutsche Version!
Thanks for the German version!
Can you mirror the German AppleWorks 6.x to mediafire? I cannot access to Megaupload anymore because my ISP blocked it forever.
REMINDER: Anything something rare items for me must be uploaded/mirrored to MediaFire, not MegaUpload!
Done.
Me too. I would very much appreciate the effort, IIGS_User.
Yes please, do upload the German version of AppleWorks 6, if you find the time.
I dont mind English apps and OS too much, but my wife refuses using any non German UI.
Me. But I don't sell.
Though, I could add it to this page, at some time.
Does anyone know where to get the German version of AppleWorks 6?
IIGS User: its for historical value
Like my upload MS Office 2001. Only screenshots is mine
it doesn't matter,
this post has been so vandalized, the only thing I recognized is the screenshot.
Euryale, I make little adds in your upload.
Dont be angry.
If you dont like it, just remowe it.
I believe this is how it all works:
AppleWorks 6.2 Carbon.sit
Will run on both Mac OS 8.6 - 9.2.2 (CarbonLib extension required) as well as Mac OS X. The purpose of this would be, for example, if you have Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X on the same computer and you want them both to be able to use the same AppleWorks, instead of installing one for Mac OS 8/9 and another one for Mac OS X.
AppleWorks 6.2 OSX.sit
Would run only on Mac OS X.
AppleWorks 6.2 installer.sit
Contains AppleWorks 6.2.3 for Mac OS 8 & 9 and AppleWorks 6.2.4 for Mac OS X. However, I believe the installer itself will only run on pre-Mac OS X systems (unless the Mac OS X systems have a working Classic installation).
Also, when performing the 'Easy Install', the installer states:
AppleWorks6.2SC.sit
Is, as sheepmyshaver123 stated, the Simplified Chinese version of AppleWorks 6.2.
Thanks for the info, sheepmyshaver123.
Who on earth needs that?
@DMNT
It is the Simplified Chinese version of AppleWorks 6.2.
I also don't know the difference between
Appleworks 6.2 Carbon.sit
and
Appleworks 6.2 OSX.sit
which, from technical understanding, must be the same part of software.
AppleWorks 6.2 installer.sit
installs AW depending on the System it runs (classic or carbon)
Appleworks6.2SC.sit
I've no idea what this is.
I don't know,
someone vandalized my original post.
now i don't even know which one is mine.
What is the difference with the Appleworks6.2SC.sit?
Ok Thanks!, Then I'll keep the older version,
Then I guess Carbon means only-for-Mac OS X-ready-hardware,
I remember PowerPC Macs ran 68k software through internal emulation,
so I think this is the case, just one step further.
now I get it.
It means you can run it in Mac OS X without using an emulator. It might actually be Mac OS X only, so if you're going to use SheepShaver, stick to the old version.
Thanks for adding the Carbon version,
now my question is:
Which one runs better in SheepShaver, the Carbon, or the "regular" Version?
I have the "Normal" version installed, but I've read that the Carbon is Native code,
so I'm confused.
Attila,
But what if, for any given reason, the title must be changed? At least Wikipedia articles have a "What links here" option for these cases. We need something like that.
sorry
TataMisia, please don't change the titles of these pages unless absolutely necessary. If anyone has made a link to it, the link might now be broken.
Thanks for explaining the difference,
Appleworks has gone a long way,
actually I still use the Appleworks v2 on my Apple //c for a lot of stuff
like address label printing on my Matrix printers and more.
(saves me a lot of money)

well, here is this link of Mac Stuff where the Appleworks 6 Carbon can be found:
(in the "Old Software folder" )
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=b88e2ce4ed1308ff91b20cc0d07ba4d2499b7...
Difference? Carbon is the technology to run an application (or a game) native on both Mac OS 8.6 up to 9.2.2 plus Mac OS X, which needs some Carbon librarys on classic Mac OS versions to be executed.
You may just add the Carbon updates to the existing archive, to hold compatibility to older Mac OS versions.
Could you put the carbon verson of this on? as i would love to use apple works 6 with osx 10.5
Still, Appleworks V6 Still looks much better and prettier.
not so "serious" which that's -exactly- I don't like Win-Dos programs
I think AppleWorks 5 design looks more seriously than AppleWorks 6 design.
6.2.9 update:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/appleworks629...
Docs:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50083
Version 6.2.9 is compatible with both Classic (Mac OS 8.1 and up) and Mac OS X PPC (10.1 Puma to 10.5 Leopard). But if you're going to use it on Leopard read this thread first.
Thanks a lot!
Carbon means it runs in both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X!
