A Macintosh archival compression program, similar to Stuffit but uses its own compression algorithm (.cpt) it could also create self extracting archives (.sea) and read/write .hqx and .bin files for distributing files over networks. Compact Pro for several years in the early 1990's was a serious and popular competitor to Stuffit. However it has now been discontinued and is unsupported. For further reading about this unique and historic Macintosh program, see this Wikipedia entry.
For versions of Compact Pro 1.52 available in the English, French, German & Japanese languages: visit the official Compact Pro web site
CompatibilityCompact Pro works with all (Classic native) Macintosh models except the 128K and 512K.
Requires a Mac OS version 4.2 to 9.2.2.
Its a FAT binary program that runs fine on 68k & PPC Mac and the 3 main Macintosh emulators.
Also: Stuffit Expander can be used to extract Compact Pro (.cpt) archives, if the Stuffit Engine is present in the System Folder (Classic Mac OS).
Comments
I always preferred Compact Pro over Stuffit, honestly.
