For Mac OS 9

Guides on emulating older applications

PowerMac G4s need this app to open the disc tray in OS 9 if no disc is in the drive.
Came on the sytem restore discs specific to the PowerMac G4. Very useful if you no longer have the system restore disc.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC

Requires Mac OS 9.2 - 9.2.2

For similar utility apps that run on earlier Mac OS's see Eject! v1.0.1

This is probably software dependent more than hardware dependent. I think that it requires Mac OS 9.2 at a minimum, but no earlier.

For earlier Mac OS's I've been using "Eject!" from here. This works OK, but it ejects only (doesn't load the tray).

Is there some way to make this work on a Power Mac G3? I got it to work on a G4, although it was a little squirrely, but it doesn't appear to do anything on the G3. It shows up in the control strip, and you can select Eject from the pop-up menu, but nothing happens.

I would be surprised to learn that the utility is so hardware-depdendent, given that there's a standard ATAPI command for eject.
