This is beta (8.7.A6C2 A) of the never released Mac OS 8.7, codenamed "Sarah". Mac OS official releases went Mac OS 8.6 then Mac OS 9.0, skipping 8.7 or other increments altogether.
This copy was sourced from WinWorldPC and has been repackaged from .7z to a more "Mac friendly" Stuffit 5.5 ".sit" format. The archive contains a Disk Copy 6.3 disk image file.
I've run Sarah (8.7 A6C2 A) on SheepShaver for a short while, so far it seems quite stable. It has several of the new features that appear in Mac OS 9.0 such as Multiple Users, Keychain, Sherlock II, etc. In place of the usual "Special" menu, it has a "Sarah" menu, which denotes its non-release status.
This image file is not bootable. I recommend booting up from an existing OS, mounting the image to run the installer and install this beta to a spare partition, a spare drive, or onto a new drive container (SheepShaver), before booting up with this OS. - That is; don't overwrite your only stable OS!
Peter Brockie (BetaWorld) has a nice gallery of Mac OS beta's; His gallery for Sarah, here.

interesting!
I've been running 8.7 (A6C2 A) now for a few weeks on SheepShaver. It works really well on SS also on an old beige G3 upgraded with a Sonnet G4 CPU. It gets more glitches on the beige, no System crashes so far, but the Chooser will crash and also Stuffit Expander 5.5 crashes with type 3 errors, otherwise its pretty good as an OS.
[Edit] "updated" to 8.7a6c3. This alleviated the Chooser crashes but introduced new bugs. USB conflicts with the Mac Sound controllers. May not be an issue with iMac or newer Macs, but with a beige Mac like mine, for USB, an adapter card is required and to enable the card there is only USB enabler 1.2 or 1.4.1.
Installed 1.4.1 so I could use a multi button USB mouse. Mouse worked great but sound stopped working - Music, video, or games are now a "no go area".
"Down-graded" to the earlier USB 1.2 - Music etc works again... mouse drivers no longer function
Long story but to keep it short-ish, installed OpenGL 1.2.1, Games Sprockets 1.7.5 on top of 8.7a6c3 and USB adapter software 1.2 and everything is working again, mouse, music, games, video & sound. Yay!
I'm not going to try the next 8.7 beta (8.7b3c3) as I believe the USB issues didn't get any better until Mac OS 9.0.4 was released (and things are no longer broke, so I don't want to push my luck).
Anyway, I'm having fun with this unreleased version of the OS, its more like the direction I would've liked to have seen the Mac OS go in... instead of what we got with 9... mostly superficial cosmetics tho', 9 is OK too.
Looks good. For those interested is that kind of material, there are also Horatio and Copland here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?jbt60sbtnia77 .The files were taken from WinworldPC as well but I did not feel the need to try.
