Bill Atkinson's foundational program for the Macintosh computer. MacPaint and MacWrite were originally bundled with new Macs, giving users a running start. Perhaps more than any other application, MacPaint opened peoples eyes to the potential of the graphical user interface.

Version 2.0 was the first "liberated" version of MacPaint--sold separately from Macintosh systems by Apple's software spin-off, Claris. A multiple document interface, and the addition of some new tools made this update a reasonable buy, at least until SuperPaint 2.0 was released in 1989.

Archive contains: MacPaint 1.0, MacPaint 1.3, MacPaint 1.4, MacPaint 1.5 and MacPaint 2.0--all known versions of MacPaint.

The third attachment is allegedly the source code for MacPaint 1.3. Untested.

I don't know what the deal was with the first, or earlier archives, but I've uploaded version 1.5 taken from my own disk, together with docs in PDF. The disk image came from an eBay auction and had a couple of user files that had to be removed, but is otherwise original and virus-free.

All the copies of MacPaint included here are infected by the nVir A virus. Use Disinfectant to clean them up and they're safe to use. (If I recall, nVir wasn't really harmless, it just spread itself)

Does anyone have one of the very first copies of MacPaint v2.0, which allegedly has a naked lady on the splash screen.

The stuffit file can be unpacked on any variety of systems or emulators--it is not unusable. Nonetheless, as per site guidelines, I have restored the original archive as a stuffed read-only disk image.

Another problem: What was once an archive containing all versions of MacPaint has been replaced with contents of a single version of MacPaint and MacDraw. What happened there?

There is no disk image, so it's unusable. Why would this be up for download if there's no disk image?
