The rare and elusive Microsoft QuickBASIC 1.0E for Mac. The only method I have (on my OS/X Mac) to compress the disk image file is to zip it. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to where I can find StuffIt, if that's what macintoshgarden requires. Anyway, I know this is a tough one to find. Hope it helps someone. MS Basic compiler and IDE for Mac. Tested on real Macs running System 6 and 7.
The second DL is an IMG deflated with Stuffit 3.5 made from the original upload.
The third download link is a stuffit archive with 800K (Disk Copy 4.2) and 1.44MB (Disk Copy 6.3.3 read-only compressed) disk images of each the "Program" and "Examples" disks from original copies. The archive was stuffed using Stuffit Deluxe 4 on a Mac LCIII. The 1.0e patch can be found on Al Staffieri's "Mac BASIC Programming Page" here (scroll down near the bottom).
CompatibilityMacintosh Plus or later (128k ROM required), System 4.1/Finder 5.5 or higher.
Maximum system version for 1.0 is System 6.x.
Maximum system version for 1.0e is Mac OS 7.x.
Comments
Just uploaded fresh disk images from my originals; they're the third download, which now has an explanation in the description. Happy qb'ing!
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Added a d/l mirror for .img Disk image.
I'm still getting an XML error here as well.
Thanks!
Be aware, .dmg is not a Mac OS 9 native file format, so .img is preferred over there.
I tested the DMG: DiskCopy 6.5 does open the image in Mac OS 9 native after dragging it over DMG Mechanic.
Sure, your files are fine. I made the IMG from them.
Its just for folks who cant inflate Apple´s zip format and/or mount DMG.
Have a new iMac running 10.6.8 I'd buy the StuffIt but the full license is $50 and I'm not even sure it'd even be backward compatible with older versions of Stuffit Expander. Can someone let me know if the .zip files I've been uploading are ok?
Second DL is IMG compressed with Stuffit 3.5.
The old file formats can be done easily with SheepShaver.
BTW: SheepShaver seems to run the app with OS 8.6.
If you have an Mac OS X system that still has the classic environment you can download from MacGarden various versions of Stuffit Deluxe. If you do that, preferably stuff in a low as possible version of Stuffit Deluxe. If you use Stuffit Deluxe 7 do not use sitx but sit, and, in preferences, use not extreme but simple compression (the exact terms are named otherwise, how I forgot, but you will find them).
If your files are protected by a disk image ZIP compression might be okay (Balrog, please correct me if I am wrong here). dmg images are good only if they can be opened with Disk Copy 6.5 (sometimes after using DMG Mechanic). Better always are img images - Balrog admonished us several times to please use DiskCopy 4.2 instead of 6.3 format because files are better preserved with the 4.2 format.
Please do not use RAR as MacRAR for classic Mac OS is a peace of crap that most of the time cannot open RAR archives. The RAR filter of Stuffit Expander 7 is based on MacRAR and doesn't work either.
