Guides on emulating older applications

When the open sourced office suite OpenOffice went from version 2.x (X11 based) to version 3.x (native Aqua) for Macintosh, all PPC Mac support was officially dropped from OpenOffice.org's web site and only Intel Macintosh versions were made available to the general public. - No 3.x PPC vers. were officially sanctioned or made publicly available from the OpenOffice.org web site.

However, the builder[s] of the Macintosh port, compiled PPC versions in parallel to the Intel version releases. This practice was kept up until OpenOffice.org changed hands and control of OpenOffice went over to Apache.

Owing to their now relative rarity, I'm archiving some of the native PPC version 3.x releases that I found to be particularly fast & stable when running on PPC OS X 10.4.x (Tiger). All DL's have been archived using the built-in Mac OS X zip utility, use the same for best results when unzipping.

[Top DL]: OpenOffice version 3.1.1 (US English), build date: 2009:08:09
MD5 checksum & filename: 5881b6a5547c060673333927eca86048 *openoffice_311-ppc.zip

[2nd DL]: OpenOffice version 3.2.1 (US English), build date: 2010:05:27
MD5 checksum & filename: 04c723620b8a2553857c85eb8b7fece6 *openoffice_321-ppc.zip

[3rd DL]: OpenOffice version 3.3.0 (US English), build date: 2011:01:19
MD5 checksum & filename: f2e11e8dbae6c3ecf1844456385d47cd *openoffice_330-ppc.zip

The above DL's also contain additional native OOo Extensions such as the PDF Import Extension for editing PDF in OOo Draw.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC (Carbonized)

PPC OS X native, requires Mac OS X 10.4 and later

Runs well under Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger), untested by me on any later PPC Mac OS, I assume that it will run OK on 10.5.x too.

Older & new Intel native versions of OpenOffice are available from the Apache OpenOffice web pages.
