This is the original QuickTime 1.6.1 floppy disk image that shipped with System Software 7.1 as an additional extra for compatible Macs being sold at the time. This disk has been archived using Disk Copy 4.2 and Stuffit 3.6 compressed for good backwards compatibility.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k

Mac OS 7.0 to 7.5, From 7.5 onwards, this is redundant software. Archiving this here for historical reasons only. Runs on 68020 CPUs or higher. Won't run on Mini vMac (68000 cpu). Basilisk II is OK, can run in PPC Mac or SheepShaver but there is little point in doing so.

Thanks for that QuickTime wiki link - it skips detail on version 1.0, vis-à-vis what cpu limitaions it had (pre-historic I guess). An interesting history all the same. It mentions the ramifications of the transition from QT 2.5x to QT vers. 3.x (esp. the MoviePlayer) which I was aware of, but puts it so much more succinctly than I ever could:

The release of QuickTime 3.0 for Mac OS on March 30, 1998 introduced the now-standard revenue model of releasing the software for free, but with additional features of the Apple-provided MoviePlayer application that end-users could only unlock by buying a QuickTime Pro license code. Since the "Pro" features were the same as the existing features in QuickTime 2.5, any previous user of QuickTime could continue to use an older version of the central MoviePlayer application for the remaining lifespan of Mac OS to 2002; indeed, since these additional features were limited to MoviePlayer, any other QuickTime-compatible application remained unaffected.

I never bothered with the nags either, in favor of ditching every QT player post 2.5.x and (re)using the 2.5.x player instead. This lasted right up to the the final QT (6.0.3) to run on Mac OS 9.2.2 (and is still going strong). QT MoviePlayer 2.5.1 is the best. Smile

Sure. And if someone has v1.5, add that too. I'm curious to see what v1.0 can run on Wink

Is it OK to add QuickTime 1.0 and 1.6.2 to this entry?
