REAL Software |
You've always wanted to create cool applications but you didn't want to learn C++ or Java and 8000 Macintosh toolbox calls to do it. The waiting is over. REALbasic lets you spend your time solving your problem instead of deciphering cryptic syntax. With its visual interface builder, you can create windows and menus in minutes using all the latest interface controls. Next, just double-click on an interface element to open the Code Editor and tell it what to do. REALbasic's programming language gives you all the benefits of BASIC's easy syntax with the power of modern, object-oriented programming. The tutorial will get you started and makes no assumptions. If you have never written a single line of code before, this is the perfect place to start. Once you get going, the context-sensitive on-line help will give you the details when you need them. - web.archive.org snapshot of realsoftware.com, 1999.

REALbasic 4.x:
I have been able to find installers for 4.x. But I can't find a working serial code. I will upload these when I find one or if someone requests it.
Practically all of these installers have been obtained from MacAddict CDs. So there isn't any of the CD bonus content. Hopefully someone will find a copy and share it someday.

That´s interesting,
thanks for you answers.
Did a quick check: REALbasic 5.5.5 here on the site can target 68k Macs, PPC Macs (Carbon; thus OSX & Classic) and even Win32.
Highly unlikely. As versions 2 & 3 of REALbasic came out around Mac OS 10.0 through 10.3.
You would have a better change using REALbasic 5.5.5, which still has Mac OS 8/9 compatibility. Still whether it would work under Snow Leopard is uncertain.
Hey, Hi..
if I make a program using this, will it work on Mac OS X?
the last Mac OS X.
Added REALbasic 2.0.2 CD, many thanks to the members of the Pandora server!
NetCD is a good example to keep the REALbasic source current with upcoming versions of REALbasic. If you don't switch to current versions, one day your code is nearly unusable and would need a complete re-write, instead of just pay attention to some changes made in current version of REALbasic.
Thanks, Bolkonskij, you've found me.
REALbasic's bad reputation may come from bad programmers (or even their mistakes), and the dumb DOSBox front-end keeps me busy all the time...
Just another example of what can be accomplished with RealBasic is this site that I found via a link from the Old Mac Archive:
http://www.classics-for-x.info/
It contains lots of OSX rewrites of classic Mac software, including games like Taipan, a DOSBox Front-End etc. All done in RealBasic. So it is definitely good enough for some hobbyist projects
I'm using NetCD on my LC III. It's written in REALbasic (and it's splash screen even calls Rb "the finest development system ever made").
I remember seeing some programs with that REALbasic icon on MacAddict CD's. Most were applications and did not include source code.
That´s the kind of apps i´m talking about,
I just checked out your link Bookends and it seems like a very useful app
actually it seems perfect for me since I´m a reference-learn-everything addict
I´m always saving pages of information, I study them and make a resume of what I learn from them and make PDF´s
I have PDF´s everywhere, I just need to link them like a Book
I use LOTUS organizer 6 for linking and cross-link references and writings
and I think that´s the best organizer App ever made for Windows,
so I was looking for something similar but for my Mac, i´m out of context now,
probably i´m gonna buy that Bookends program..
REALbasic was very popular for Mac. (And still is I'm sure.) MacAddict started using it for making the interactive apps on their CDs around #27.
There are programs made with REALbasic I could try digging up from the CDs sometime.
Here's the first program made with REALbasic that comes to my mind, Global IRC-d for Mac.
http://replay.web.archive.org/20080528101439/http://www.globalircd.com/
You can download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?bxffb1f3f6v26
I'll add links if/when I find more.
Well, I recently programmed a small utility containing the phone numbers, e-mails & postal addresses of all family members and freely distributed it among them. Mac & Win versions. Easily done in two days. There are lots of apps programmed in REALbasic, you probably just didn't notice. (which is a good thing
)
One application I can think of is Bookend, a great reference manager, written in REALbasic. (See: http://www.sonnysoftware.com/)
If you can find them, would be nice to share them,
also to show off this program,
just like AppleSoft you could actually make cool apps and games like TEXT LETTERS INVADERS
I had a friend who used to make RealBasic applications. I'll dig them out and test them to see if any of them hold any value to the community anymore.
My current programs are written with, after HyperCard's discontinuing, but I wish I've had some (meanwhile) older versions of some of the projects available, which was compatible to Mac OS 9 at its time...
Are there any REALprograms made with REALbasic
to demonstrate what it can do?
I mean nice games or apps, not just the - Hello World, ball bouncing - stuff
it would be nice to upload some of them.
Cool stuff! REALbasic really is the thing you want if you don't have any programming experience so far and don't know where to start. There are a lot of tutorials out there on the web, it's perfectly implemented for the Mac and easy to pick up. Within a few hours you have your first successes
Thanks for uploading!
