I find this offer quite useful and came very handy to me. While it is true that it comes with some systems, this is AFAIK one of the older versions that still runs under system 6 and does not require Mac OS 7 as many of the later versions do.
I'm not sure why this was included as a separate upload. It comes with every installation of the Macintosh OS up to Mac OS 7.1. And, as IIGS_User has pointed out, SimpleText can open any TeachText document. I'm sure any contributions are appreciated by all, but maybe they should have a little more significance.
Some old files on the stick start TeachText on my stick automatically instead of SimpleText on my HD. So I guess it does work on Mac OS 9...
As I've written bottom,
the successor application of TeachText is SimpleText, so SimpleText should be able to open old Text files created with SimpleText very own.
TeachText opens up in my Mac OS 9.2.2 native all the time with no problems since I have it archived somewhere on a stick. Some old files on the stick start TeachText on my stick automatically instead of SimpleText on my HD. So I guess it does work on Mac OS 9 (at least in the native mode). However, it probably gets emulated by Mac OS 9.

Edit: Changed 'xxx 7' to 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User

Sure, it may run with Mac OS 9.

no, only in Mac OS 1 - 7
Runs also on Mac OS 9.2.2.
This is part of the Mac OS System installation, later replaced by SimpleText.
On the Apple IIGS known as, simply, Teach.
