theTypeBook is a one-of-a-kind Macintosh utility specifically developed for the creation and maintenance of a professional typeface reference book. This type of reference has proven to be invaluable in the Graphic Design and Typesetting industries. It assists both designers and their clients in selecting the most effective, visually-appealing typefaces for any project by exhibiting on a printed page the various artistic attributes of every installed type family.
In the past, users of Macintosh desktop publishing programs had to painstakingly generate typeface reference books in accordance with the layout parameters of each individual page in their favorite desktop publishing application. Even when using a template strategy, it was still necessary to select the font and the font style for each page, then edit the text so that overflows, holes, widows and orphans were avoided to enhance readability. All that time and effort amounted to a significant number of non-billable hours required to produce a typeface reference book and, undoubtedly, some wicked headaches.
theTypeBook, bless its heart, eliminates any need for operator involvement in creating the pages of your custom typeface reference book. Simply select the desired typefaces, issue the Print command, and it's a done-deal; no other direct functions are required or, of course, available.
theTypeBook handles each typeface as an individual print job. This has two advantages: 1) it's not necessary to use the Unlimited Downloadable Fonts option, except when you're printing layouts that show a number of fonts per page. And, if the printer is in a shared environment, you'll be able to slip your print jobs into the printing queue.
theTypeBook is compatible with virtually all printers, and all current Postscript and Truetype fonts are supported. Background printing and SuperLaserSpool are supported, as well. How's that for versatility?

Thanks Mike. Nice stars by the way.
Yeah, TeachText is what is used mostly and I was surprised to see the README asking for MacWrite. Thanks for the tip about BBEdit, I need to install that. I use the modern TextWrangler for OSX and use it often.
About Chicago: You're right, it's probably corrupt. Sounds like a job for Suitcase. It can repair some issues with fonts. If not I'll just reinstall the font.
@Vitoarc:
Vito, I didn't read the Personalization dialog, re: password bit, closely enough
Got that sorted now
Until now I had version 2 and that was only a trial copy. This is much improved over that version - a big thank you and 5 stars from me

About the README's, I've come across a few installers from this period lately, where the authors have included their Readme files in a proprietary "MacWrite" format, even tho' the document they are making is in plain text. They should've used TeachText or SimpleText for accessibility.
Anyway, if I see a file that belongs to an app that I don't have installed (usually the clue is a blank generic icon), I just drag the icon onto a BBEdit (Lite) icon, BBEdit will open any file regardless of its origin this way.
The error message that you're getting re: Chicago may possibly mean your Chicago font is in some way corrupt. At least I don't get an error on Chicago so far. Minion Web, yes, but Chicago no.
OK, I checked. It's a very strange (buggy) program/version. Firstly, this is a DC 4.2 copy from the original disk, so everything should be there. However, I've discovered that upon launching, it needs the following:
- MacWrite to open the included README
- It looks for the Print Manager, so make sure that extension is enabled
- It gives some error message about the Chicago Font (wrong heap size) for me, I don't know if that will happen with everyone.
When asked to "register" I entered a name, city, state, and a password and I was able to launch it. It doesn't ask for a S/N.
So, besides all of this, what issues have you experienced with it Mike?
I checked it before uploading, but not fully. I'm not running this program right now. But I'll check more thoroughly.
Appears to be missing something to make it fully functional.
Superb software - if you have more than 100 fonts, this is essential!
