Zipple is an extension and Control Panel which places an animated image of your choice over the title of the Apple, Balloon Help, or Application menu (in color if you have a color screen). Some animated images are included in the in-built library or you can create your own with the in-built editor.

After installing Zipple in the Control Panels folder or System Folder and rebooting, the chosen animation can be turned on with the checkbox in the top-right of the Control Panel. Zipple's preferences (which menu bar symbol to replace) are accessed by clicking on the "Zipple" logo in the top-left of the Control Panel.

The Control Panel is on a Disk Copy 4 disk image (1.44MB) inside a StuffIt 3.5 archive.

Note: This is NOT the latest version. Zipple 1.9.2 was the last version and it does offer a number of great new features and improvements.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k

If you are running Zipple on OS 8 or later, you will notice a grey square appears behind your selected Zipple. This is because the background color of the menu bar was changed starting with OS 8 and unfortunately Zipple was never modified to accommodate this.

It is purely aesthetic and does not effect use.

Beyond that Zipple runs great on anything System 6 or later.

This is a fantastically cool and original CDEV that was wildly popular in the early 90's. It is one of my favorite "UI Customizations" of all time.
