As I´ve written before here I´m with you MadMac. A simple response to the original mail with a request of confirming sender's identity and then see what´s returned. That should be the starting point for actions from our/MG's side.

Nope. I won´t look her up. I´m more interested in where the mail came from originally than the name in the message at the bottom.

So i emailed the email address listed in the message and i have got no reply(i emailed when this topic was started). I've emailed EA's Legal Department and they sent me this message:

If I was able to see the full original email with headers, I probably could determine whether or not it's valid.

@MCP, a troll, remember "Drew hause"? All he/she would have to do is google EA enforcement, send an email to our site and tell us to take down all the games.

Read up a bit on how EA (and most other companies) does stuff. Legal departments usually aren't very permissive.

Put Klik & Play back up, because it was never owned by Maxis or Electronic Arts.

Sierra published Ultima II for Origin, does that make Activision Blizzard owner of the Ultima series? Nope. EA owns it.

I think this is a bit sad about software preservation... OK, for the SiMS I would understand, this one is still worked on, at least on the successors, but SimCity &c.? We'll see in 6 years...

Download packs with multiple, EA and non-EA games aswell, filenames are just abbreviations, and such.

Or like in Commodore 64 compilation disks, multiple games on one disk image?

Ignore it, it was an Illegal stop and desist notice in the first place. Karen Jessop is a US paralegal which means that since this letter came from a US Paralegal, the notice falls under US jurisdiction no matter where the server and website is located. In 2006, the US Librarian of Congress enacted a few clauses that make Archivng software for non-infringing purposes and distribution freely available to the public as long as A) The hardware these unsupported software versions run on are obsolete and no longer updated, B) the media that these titles come on are obsolete.

Typical EA nonsense... Concerned with profit and profit only. It's not like they even sell these games now...

Okay, I know this is an old thread and there's all sorts of legalities being thrown around, but I wonder if somebody would be so kind as to share their copy of Sim Farm with me?

When I was a much younger person, my older brother and I bought Sim Farm at the store. Sadly, over the years and different computers, my version has become corrupted. The game crashes and the irrigation ditches don't work any more. I still have the floppy disks they came on, but no way to read them (and heck, who knows if they even hold data now. I can provide photographic proof of this on request.

I really miss playing it...

If I'd upload something of Abandonware owned (or now owned) by EA and get a reaction, I'd respond with:

"We know you're taking offense by Abandonware, but you don't sell these good old games anymore. I also know that every time you release a new game, it only becomes much less appealing and more irritating to the customers because of your ridiculous DRM (Internet connection), wasted cash on advertising, and held-back content through DLCs. If you're telling me to wipe away your old classic games from Macintosh Garden just so you can ensure your later games are bought so that you can continue to be hurtful, piss off!
I'd rather please my fellows than worship you. You greedy sons of bitches also rush your games out and use DLCs just because you think money is a thousand times more important than happy customers. MAKE me take away your games from the Macintosh Garden, because I think you want money just to exist. I bet your founder, Trip Hawkins, is definitely dissapointed with you right now"

How about placing some EA banners in trade for making the abandonware of EA freely available...

This is a site for the purest software lovers, so the impact of software commercials is absolutely the highest over here...

Using abandonware for marketing purposes in selling their newest software is like selling icecream on a hot summerday to icecreamlovers. I think it would be a very efficient marketing tactic that could save EA quite some budget, and saving budget is something every company wants to hear. This is their icecream...

Besides that, it could also boost up the capacity of the site allowing more games to be fully downloadable from the site itself.

It is just a thought. What are your opinions???
