I Think i will get the single 1ghz one (as hdd's, especially ide ones, are expensive now), I did run on a 400mhz g4 for ages, so it shouldn't be too bad (plus the added stability of server grade hardware).
Hopefully i can save up the money in the 28 days before the listing ends, i have been selling a few things, but i don't have anything i can sell for any real money.

In the end i brought neither on the ones i was looking at, and got something inbetween, a 1Ghz dual processor G4, no hdd's (well, a 10gb one, but that's nothing) why? it's a case of £65 vs £100/110

Yes, when we have the fiber line installed we should have a much faster upload speed, therefor downloads from my server should be faster (but i make no grantees of how much faster)

I keep getting disconnected with "Control Connection Closed". The first time I realize was my fault, for some reason my FTP client defaulted to 10 connections at once, way too many! So I dropped it down to 4, and it still kicked me out. Am I doing something wrong?

limit it to 2 or 3, i say the limit is 2 but i generally allow 3 connection per ip, i may raise this limit in a few weeks though, once we have a new router and i have a better idea of the general speed of my fiber line, will unban you ip now

some are missing as i just never got them, i don't personally own a single disk, my dev cd collection is comprised of ufk's and oldmac's. the only files i keep offline are ones i have been given to archive with the instruction "not to be publicly shared" (and none of those are dev cd's)

ok. for the last time. the limit is three connections per ip (and you need to cheack your client, some open up loads of connections for control, even if you only have 3 downloads). From now on temporary bans will not be given out. from now on all bans for breaching that limit will be at least 3 months.

Just got our fiber line upgraded! now getting 80Mbp/s down and 20Mbp/s up (well we will when our is gets around to updating our cap, we are currently getting 40/2)

Gonna have to swap FTP software again (if you want to know why, look at the priceing for rumpus FTP) looking at crushFTP (which is $70 for a 50 concurrent user licence). This is of corse on top of the second 320Gb IDE hdd I need (£20) and the USB card (around £30 for a sonnet one, which has a garantee that it will work). Not that I have the money for this atm (if anyone is willing to help out it would be grately appreciated) but I thought I would give advance notice, as FTP and HTTP will be on and off allot in the near future.

good to see someone new doing something similar to me, out of interest are you home hosting? (if you are make sure you have very good backups, or you will loose everything in a freak disk failure) Also how much disk space do you have? (just i really underestimated how much space i would need, currently at 350gb with just a fraction of what is out there). I wish you the best of luck with your server. (an if your in it for the long run, you might want to start your own thread)

I am home-hosting but my overall upload speed it about 10 Mbit/s. The disk storage for the server is 2 TB at the moment, and starting my own thread is a good idea. I am mirroring your "Apple Discs" folder BTW, there's some real gold in there.

I have received a few requests for user/pass for my server. I will give the info, but right now the majority of its files are not organized well enough and many are still tranferring and are incomplete. I just don't want people to get "broken" files. I will begin allowing access once my files are complete and organized. I posted the address and such to get that out as soon as i could, but this is still a really "new" server. Max1zzz has recommended that if i'm in this for a long-term to start my own thread. I will, i just wanted to get the chance to introduce myself first

Notice: files will be offline on wednesday or next monday (depending on when i get the new hdd's), in this time the data will be moved back onto the raid, i have also purchased a spare drive (so hdd problems will not cause so much downtime). Having some trouble with the backup drive, will be downtime over the weekend while i try to sort it out, if i can't the server will be offline until i can get a replacement drive from seagate (as if i loose one disk in the main data raid i loose all the data in the set, so i cannot run without a backup)
