Caesar III puts you in charge of a budding Roman city. As the governor, you control what will be built and where, how to tax your citizens and how to provide for their defense. The main thrust of the game is familiar to most anyone who has played God games like Populous, SimCity, or even Lords of the Realm - compensating for different needs to build a well rounded city.
Caesar III's game play is outstanding, striking a perfect balance between hands on development of your city and micro-management of resources. On a macro scale, you can layout roads, housing, farming, industry and government areas, all of which have an impact on each other. Housing won't evolve into more efficient habitations if they're right next to a Prefect (local law) or a market, but also won't evolve if they're too far away from a market. Industries need labor, but naturally, the plebes in your city don't want to live right next to the docks.

Comments
On Intel Mac computers, this msg appears if you try to run an application created for pre-Mac OS X versions. Use emulators like Basilisk II or SheepShaver instead.
These emulators require a ROM file and an operating system to be installed inside, called "Mac OS".
Hi, I have a Mac OS X version 10.9.4. I' trying to install this game but when I double click the "Caesar™ III Installer" it says "You can’t open the application “%@” because it may be damaged or incomplete.". Can some body help me whit this problem. I really like this game. Thanks for your consideration.
I got it installed under MacOS9 running SheepShaver on my PowerBook G4. I had to untick the Quickdraw option to make it working in the SheepShaver preferences menu.
BUT it seems that its not quite ok. I can do some basic things but there are no settlers coming to start building some houses...what a pity
My SheepShaver is the version from 2009 who is said to be less troublesome on PPC machines and i'm running with the Leopard MacOS.
Updated the link. It is a Stuffed toast file. I think this toast version is from my copy of the game. I also have a "Caesar_III.dmg_.sit" copy which I think is the one I downloaded from here last year. I can upload that one if this toast file doesn't work. (I only mounted it in OS X to make sure it was readable.)
The External link is broken, can someone reup it?
Do you have Mac OS 9 or Classic installed on your Mac ? Which Mac is it ? And which Mac OS X ?
I cant initiate install it says it needs classic environment.. how can i fix that???
thank you
Use Toast to mount/burn it
Hi.how can i open .toast in os 9?
@Vitoarc: I went through the steps you did. However my archive uncompressed without hanging/freezing. I used Stuffit Expander v12.0 and did this on my G4 under OS 10.5.8 When I mounted the Toast image with the Toast plugin, ie 'Mount it'/'Toast it', I got an error report but ignored it since Leopard does not recognize HFS/Mac OS Standard properly.
When then I tried to mount the image with the Disk Utility I got the same report about 'no mountable system present'.
Depending under which system your handling the image you can use the recommended Toast image mounter (Classic) or Toast itself (Classic & OS X). I think there used to a free image mounter for OS X too. I´ll make check and return with the info.
HTH!
Maybe I did something wrong, but I was not successful. Here's what I did:
- Concatenated the 5 files using Split and Concat
- Clicked on the stuffed archive (C12s1r333.sit), entered the password, and a folder was then created named C12s1r333.
- Inside this folder another folder was created named 'Caesar III Info & Update' along with a .toast image that was then created.
- During expansion, Stuffit appeared to take forever to expand .wav files. I let the expansion go for almost an hour.
- During the expansion time, the .toast file, named 'Caesar™ III.toast' grew to 542 MB, but it stopped growing in size after about 15 minutes, while Stuffit kept expanding away, saying it was expanding those .wav files.
- I stopped the process after an hour because it looked like I wasn't getting anywhere.
- I tried to mount the final Caesar™ III.toast image using Toast 5.2.3 but I received the message that it was unmountable, that there were no mountable file systems present.
Yeah, the files not there any more.
Last time I looked there had been nearly 1600 downloads, so I'm sure some of you who already have it could upload it again.
What it says means you're trying to run a OS 9 PPC program on your Intel Macintosh. Won't work. Try using an emulator like sheepshaver or invest a few bucks and get yourself a vintage retro gaming Mac for maximum compatibility with the games here
After I mount the file and get the disk image, I open the disk and click Caesar III Installer, but every time I do a finder window pops up that says, You cannot open the application "Caeser III Installer" because it is not supported on this system. Can anyone help me with this?
Yus!!! just realized what I did wrong- thanks buddy...
Burn the disc image with Toast, or just lock the image file and mount it with Toast.
Ok- so it's all installed but when I try to play it says I need to replace the CD ROM. I have burned a CD with all the download on it yet still no success...
Help Please?
It runs nearly perfectly under the Tiger's Classic mode (sometimes freezing on the "Loading Sounds" stage).
But! With SheepShaver (MacOS 9.04) it looks like to freeze on the splash screen. After some cmd+left/right clicks (sorry, I don't remember) you can start the game but the time counter doesn't run (and dont come settlers etc.)
I am using SheepShaver with Mac OS 8.6...I have installed Caesar, but it crashes after the loading screen. Can anybody help?
Probably one of my favourite games of all time! My game disk broke about a year and a half ago and I was very pleased to find i here. I also understand that there were very few disks sold for Mac and that's why Caesar IV wasn't ported to Mac. Anybody else hear this?
yes now infoclick work !!!!! Mille grazie a tutti
thank you every one
From memory, it's command + click, so if your mouse right button isn't set up as command + click it's not going to work.
hI everyone ......IT'S WORKED!! Finally i can play caesar III on my old imac.......i'm very happy! thank you!!yesterday i started my first game after 9 years of waiting!!!!!!thank to everyone.....
only a question .........Infoclick...how? i click with right button of mouse but nothing happens......why?
please help me again..........and again thanks to every one..........ah i know that my english is terrible....sorry for this
Have you tried burning the CD ? I can't remember what format the disk image is.
Best is to burn it on a CD-R. Just drag the .dmg file onto your toast symbol (I assume you have OS X, otherwise you wouldn't be able to open the .dmg i guess?). Anyway, it worked that way for me.
please help me......sorry for my english
i download caesar III from this site but i can't play on my old imac g3....because ask the cd.... how can i create a image disk...(or fake cd) so i can play....? i have tried with disk copy but don't work please help me i want play caesar 3 from 9 years
@Balrog,
if you can get yours to image perfectly, and get it down to under 400MB, please replace mine. I'm sure that I must have been able to duplicate mine long before OSX ever came along, I would never play with the original disc, it's only ever used to create copies for playing.
Geez, that was quick lol!
I Have the original media as well. I remember being able to successfully image it but I'll need to find the disc and redo it: I'm sure my disc images correctly.
I've been really busy though.
I have the original media. I'll try everything to get this under 400MB. I've also got a pdf of the original manual (grayscale unfortunately) - from the PC version. Don't worry, once the app is started the PC and Mac versions are identical.
This is my favourite game of all time, as I keep saying, what SimCity always wanted to be.
Edit:
OS9 Disk Copy can't make an image file, tried twice on the copy I use to play, and three times on the original disc. About 1/3 of the way through it stops with a media error. Disk Copy under Classic gets an error immediately.
OSX Toast creates a disk image, but with a warning that there were errors in the data part. It is 589MB. If I zip it (OSX Create Archive) it is 440.6MB, if I Stuffit, it is 398.9MB !!
OSX Disk Utility creates a read only disk image without any errors or warnings. 581MB. (589MB if it is read/write).
I decided to go with the read-write disk image, so I could remove the 36MB of video for two demos (that were never released for Mac) and so I could add in the only patch ever released for Caesar III, two WAV files, 14b.wav and 14w.wav, used in the final scenario. These files are only installed with a full install (!!), otherwise they're played direct from the CD, so it'll save everyone else having to fiddle with their disk images before burning it.
The OSX Archive of the amended disk image (converted back to read-only) creates a 399.4MB zip file.
Stuffit produces a 357.9MB file.
While the OSX disk image is not ideal, it has no errors and is small enough and readable in OS9 (perhaps OS8) using the Apple Disk Copy v6.4 which mounts uncompressed, un-encrypted OSX disk images.
Tested an install and run of the application from the amended disk image.
I didn't. This is the bit[k|rieg version and the description is from their 'read me'. 4 or 5 years ago, I downloaded this from a hotline server as it is.
Please don't remove anything for faster downloads. As long as it will fit in the 400MB (compressed), we want the full game! Now if it won't fit, then it may be necessary to remove stuff.
