"In this sequel to the original Doom, you play the same hero - the last remaining space marine."
"After having single-handedly saved Mars from demonic threat, you return to Earth, only to find out that the demons have already invaded it, killed most of its inhabitants or possessed them. It's your task to bring down the force field around the last operational star port to allow the remnants of mankind to escape to the stars.
Doom II looks and plays very similarly to its predecessor, utilizing the same 3D graphical engine with 2D sprites for enemies. The game play once again consists entirely of navigating the hero from first-person view through 3D environments and shooting at the demons while attempting to find your way out by flipping switches and looking for keys. Unlike in Doom, which is divided into three episodes, the 30 levels of Doom II (plus the 2 secret levels) form one long episode.
Doom II adds one new weapon to the players arsenal; the super shotgun, several new demon types with more advanced attacks than those of the first Doom, such as the chaingun-toting Heavy Weapon Dudes, the skeletal Revenants who launch homing missiles and the sinister Arch-Viles who have a highly damaging fire attack." --MobyGames.com

Just posted a Launcher for Doom Legacy in OSX:
http://macintoshgarden.org/games/doom-legacy-wad-launcher-0
I just managed to download the "18.68 mb" file and i made a copy of the game. Right now i play the game on my Mac Performa 6116 with sonnet nubus g3 installed and it runs great. And the music is also there. Very nice job. Thank you.
It will take a couple of weeks before the link in the page works. But if you click on "edit" and look for the link on the edit page, you can download it from there.
Thanks for the upload.
Unfortunately, I can't download it. I have the following message :
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

OK guys i have no idea why a game that was so popular is not uploaded in a better version. I just took my cd and made an image from it. Warning: those guys at id Software had the "genious" idea of making a whole 650 MB cd for mere 35 MB of files. When you decompress the image it will grow from 18MB to 650MB. Be sure to have enough space available. Hope the cdr version is ok.
@Dimitris: If you're referring to the 5.99 MB DL above, you cannot hear music because the DL is incomplete. Missing is the "Music" folder containing Macintosh QuickTime ".MID!" files for the backing music score. You would need to find a full Macintosh version of this game to get it fully playing as it should.
[Edit] There is something really screwy about the Doom 2 player in this archive. I don't think that it will play the music score even if you locate the mids for this.
Discovered tho'. If you DL Final Doom from here and install it (either Plutonia or Evilution) they each have in their "Music" folders, the same music that's in Doom II - there's no difference.
Also, you can take the Doom2.wad and play the game with the Final Doom player and have the music play.
Store the Final Doom WAD file somewhere safe and drop in the Doom2 WAD into the same folder as the Final Doom player. Start the player and immediately hit the "S" key to choose a level. It should let you play Doom II and with full sound track playing.
Why there is not any music? Only sound effects i can hear. PC version had music.
Yes, should probably be placed a bit upper.
IIGS User, I understand what you're trying to do, but people won't see the external download link unless they scroll down the page, and people have very short attention spans...
Ah I see, thanks. You can use the Ultimate DooM player safely with the DooM II .WAD, Ultimate's .WAD & DooM II's are interchangeable with the Ultimate engine player.
Alternatively on Mac OS 8 - 9 you can use the Legacy DooM player. Its better than the original player anyway, IMO.
Ultimate DOOM and Final DOOM both let you use different keys, but this version of DOOM 2 forces you to use the default settings. Thanks anyway.
I thought the "fire" key was mapped to another key by default in Mac versions of DooM, but I don't recall offhand which. But I believe its easy to find out which key and map those keys to whatever suits you in the Options for the game under the Menus at top of screen when you start the game up.
I haven't DL'd this particular game from here tho', so I don't know if it differs from what I've used in the past.
I love DOOM 2, (who doesn't?) but I'm having some trouble with this copy. It seems that the CTRL key isn't recognized with it on my iMac G3, so I can't fire. Does anyone know what to do about this?
Yes, if you have a DooM .wad file it doesn't matter where it came from. I haven't played Doom for a long time, probably cause I over-played it too much at the time. When I last played it I preferred to use the Doom Legacy engine - The (Classic) Mac Legacy port is also here at the Garden.
Am I to understand that the PC Doom, Doom II, and Quake addon packs will work with the Mac versions? I remember playing Aliens Quake at one point (game over man... game over).
I have the PC versions (and quite a few Mac versions) of Ultimate Doom etc.
scan of the CD, awesome!! This is one of many many games that I have never seen the retail packaging/CD of.....
:(
BEST GAME EVER!
