"Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is an adventure game set in present-day New Orleans.
Step into the world of Gabriel Knight, a wise-cracking bookstore owner and would-be author. He is the last in a long line of Shadow Hunters, those fated to fight the dark forces of the supernatural. Tormented by terrifying nightmares, he must spend every waking moment scouring the side streets and back alleys of New Orleans for the key to his dark past. One day, a blood-chilling murder shocks the inhabitants of the city. The police detective assigned to investigate the crime is Gabriel's friend. In the beginning Gabriel collects evidence in hope of using the material for his new novel; but soon he finds himself personally involved in the investigation, and plunges deeper into the world of secret societies and murderous cults.
Created by Jane Jensen, the game differs from Sierra's popular Quest games by having a realistic setting and focusing (despite its supernatural elements and humor) on mature themes and detective work. In this way it is more similar to the company's earlier Laura Bow games.
The game's icon-based interface is the same as in Sierra's previous title, with verb commands that allow interaction with the game world and its inhabitants. Though the game still has plenty of inventory-based puzzles characteristic for classic adventure, its gameplay is heavily inclined towards dialogue: typically, Gabriel will have to interrogate other characters, choosing conversation topics and thus gradually finding clues and advancing towards the mystery's solution." --MobyGames.com

CompatibilityNOTE: Includes a savegame file, which solves a problem type "error 12" for the game. Most of the points, but not all.

I have searched long time before for the talkie version but i haven't found anything. I think there is talkie version only for dos/windows.
Was there a "talkie" version for the Mac?
Tested on SheepShaver and it works, but i can't find a way to switch the game to fullscreen. I think I used to play it in fullscreen ages ago..
Someone can help?

I downloaded this one long time ago and tested it for about 10 minutes
it works great and it seems interesting but I didn't have the chance to play it,
but now by reading the comments, I feel like I want to play it till the end.
Probably THE best character driven adventure game ever. The details, atmosphere, writing and gameplay are stellar. You just HAVE to love this!!
Now, if only SCUMMVM would add this...
Try increasing the heap memory and turning off your Virtual Memory.
I recently get a mac performa 6116 (powerpc 60 mhz 72 mb ram with mac os 9.1) and tested Gabriel Knight but it is slow. I even put the fastest speed but nothing changed. I tested various games and i can say that monkey island 2 and king's quest 7 are a bit little slow. Why is that? Other games with bigger requirements like 7th guest and Full Throttle are ok with the speed
I have played it on pc with dosbox but i have never finished it. It is a very strong adventure and i want to play it on my imac g3
