"Heretic II is a third-person fantasy shooter game with the camera chasing behind the character."
"The perspective is pretty much the only thing that breaks with the tradition of the series. The core gameplay still consists mainly of exploring the large fantasy-themed levels, using medieval weapons (mainly long-ranged) and spells to deal with the plethora of enemies. Despite the third-person view, jumping and environmental puzzles are used as moderately as it is usual in first-person shooters." --MobyGames.com

There are good guide online on getting this working under Linux (with new installer from liflg.org)
You need to download a zip file of old Loki dependencies, and then launch with padsp32 (oss-compat?) for sound, with a custom LD_PRELOAD. It is a pain, but ALL loki releases are still installable/playable with modern distros (I was using Mint17-XFCE-64bit) on modern hardware.

It works for me under Mac OSX 10.5.2 without any problems =o
great under os 9, forget running in 10.4.11, causes kernel panics [bad] at random intervals during gameplay, will force your ppc to stop everything and displays multi language "you must restart your computer" dialog. awesome game in 9
Thank you for this great game!
Interesting side note -- this is not available on Linux (to my knowledge) any more. There was a demo released for Linux, and simply replacing the data files with PC full game data files, turned it into a full game (and less buggy one at that!) under Linux.
PS. Have not tried this since Mint Linux 7.0 (Jaunty).
Got the .dmg file, and it even plays perfectly on an AMD 10.5.8 Hackintosh - Superb game!!!
