For System 7.0 - 7.6 - Mac OS 9
Emulation
This game works with: Basilisk II,

I couldnt find this game here and I saw a request from someone else for it!
I LOVE THIS GAME! its one of those things that was kicking around when I was a kid.
...so the search began...and oh yes I did find it, woot!

Its your basic rogue-like game.

What is going on here?

You have just begun a game of rogue. Your goal is to grab as much treasure as you can, find the Amulet of Yendor, and get out of the Dungeons of Doom alive. (how badass does that sound?!)

Why you? Well...you have just finished your years as a student at the local fighters guild. After much practice and sweat you have finally completed your training and are ready to embark upon a perilous advernture. (ooooooooooo exciting!!!) As a test of your skills, the local guildmasters have sent you into the Dungeons of Doom!

Your task is to return with the Amulet of Yendor. Your reward for completion of this task will be a full membership in the local guild. In addition you are allowed to keep all the loot you bring back from the dungeons.

I'm not 100% sure on what systems this is capable of running on, I know when I was playing it
was Mac OS 7.5. So I will mark it for that. Have tested it personally only in Basilisk II, not sure
about other emulators.

mrdav: Replaced upload with a good copy

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC

It has been verified that it works with Mac OS 7.5 and 68040 processor, and System 9 with PPC.

Downloaded the game from the alternate download link. It won't work with System 6 or Mac OS 7.0 It just bombs out right at startup. I finally fired up the Performa 6360 running Mac OS 7.6 and it runs there but OMG - How very buggy and lame it is.

Edit: Replaced 'xxx 7' by 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User

Hmmm, I am not really sure what a "no such key error" is...
But I've re-uploaded the file. I've had no troubles using it myself, perhaps I've uploaded it
incorrectly somehow.

In anycase, I found this file via an archive of several old games, if you search through it you might
even find some other old game you've been missing lol

Still waiting on a working link. I know it seems silly for such a small file, but id love to get back into this game once again!

I much preferred the ascii goodness of Moria 1.1 Laughing out loud

I played an awful lot of that as a young man Smile

Confusion sorted. This is a later version, using Manga-like icons for each square. I never played this one.

I've managed to find 3 different versions of the earlier simpler game, just called "Rogue". I would have played one of these every so often, when I wasn't playing Angband. And I'd only play that when I wasn't playing my port from the original Unix source.

haha! awsome! I am so glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers this game!

I would love to see the black and white version of it! I remember seeing screenshots of it in the
past but never came across it.

PS. thats amazing you kept a save game for that long man...thats some true gamer love right there.
I am a fan. ^_^

Wow, excellent find.

I don't remember it being colour though. Maybe I have an earlier Black and White version.

Of course, in 1979 the original Unix "The Dungeons of Doom" once accounted for more CPU ticks around the globe than any other program.
I still have the Unix source code, from 1982. I still have a savegame from a game I started in 1986, played until about 2001. With a little modification I got it to run under Terminal in OSX 10.2 some years ago.

Dude, great upload! This was one of the first proper RPGs I ever played followed by price of destruction, many thanks.
