A game like Pac-Man, but fused with Hangman.

CompatibilitySheepShaver does run Maniac, but there are MANY issues, including causing system errors randomly.

If you play this game with an emulator, use the 142 build of BasiliskII. The sound doesn't seem to work properly in anything else, aside from actual hardware.
A true Mac shareware classic. Unfortunately, this one doesn't play especially well with SheepShaver or Basilisk. Gameplay is smoother in SheepShaver but, as the OP noted, it crashes a lot. Both emulators mangle the soundtrack, which is a damn shame - I remember downloading Maniac from AOL's MGM Games server and being blown away by the music.

Is this considered to be abandonware or still shareware? I saw on a website that it was still available to purchase and that the delevoper, Alex Metcalf was in Canada.
This is the website offering it for $15: http://www.tucows.com/preview/205631/Maniac

This game is fun!
4 stars (not as good as technomaniac)

This is a terrific game. The spelling bit is a nice twist on the old Pacman game, and the music is brilliant.
I'd give it 2 or 3 stars but the music featured in the game is just so awesome
