This is computerized version of "Black Box," a CAT scan inspired board game created by Eric Colomon in the 1970s. Players shoot a ray into the edge of a black box in order to deduce the location of atoms hidden within. It's simplicity does not diminish its playability.
This particular program owes some of it's graphic appeal to the 1978 American release of Parker Brothers' version of the board game. It's unfortunate that a color version of this computer game has not turned up, as the board game was an aesthetic slice of 1970s design.
