An anime-styled third-person shooter with a pioneering emphasis on hand-to-hand combat. Prolific anime voice actress Amanda Winn-Lee stars as Konoko, an agent of the Technology Crimes Task Force in the year 2032.

Oni was developed by Bungie West, a division of Bungie. Released in 2001, it was Bungie West's only game. It broke new ground by blending third-person shooting with hand-to-hand combat, resulting in a unique, yet familiar game for third-person shooter enthusiasts. In 1999, while still in development, Oni won the Game Critics Awards for Best Action/Adventure Game. Due to difficulties in debugging and the general unplayability of a fighting game over any less reliable network than a LAN at the time, multiplayer was omitted from the released version.

This game is awesome (if you are somewhat inclined to manga or anime stuff); thanks to the great work by ex-bungie people I am playing Oni natively on an intel 2011 MacMini and works flawlessly! The game experience is very fluid, loads almost instantly, and the replay value (after 12 years!) is excellent.
A very fine jewel from the beige G3s days...

FWIW, there is an Intel-native build of Oni that runs on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion if you have the original datafiles. This game may be old, but it can still run on current Macs!

This further development is very appreciated.

Wow, thanks for the tip. Found the forum where the developer talks about progress at http://oni.bungie.org/community/forum/viewtopic.php?id=848

Oni is one of the games I was hesitating to upgrade to Lion about. It looks like I won't have to worry, and this new port is going to really bring the game up to speed with graphical filters and whatnot.

oh yeah...i remember this game. i played the demo a few years ago or so. i was upset that after comin all that way, i couldnt keep goin. loved the cool moves and weapons but boy, did i have difficulty when bad guys snuck up on me. doesnt feel so good from the receivin end, but was cool and fun sneakin on them. good work at uploadin this! the cheat code to change characters is excellent! unlike how cheat codes make some games borin to play after a while, i still got a run for my money with codes on in this game. but i feel awkward playin as a chic, bein that im not 1. thats 1 of the reasons i had a tough time playin tomb raider, other than its hard-as-hell puzzles. i dont know, maybe chics feel that same way playin as dudes all the time? its tough to say.

If you like to kick some bada∫∫es, break bones, crack necks and make some other contusions, this girl is a killing machine!
But she has some weird problems with analgesics... Smile anyway... have fun!

I believe Heretic 2 is "similar". Third person adventure, based on Quake II engine. Not really a bet-em-up or sneak-em-up like this tho.

Thanks! it looks nice,
and now I wonder "Where the hell was I when i had my Mac machine?"
I didn't know there were So many good games and software until now
(actually I was really busy working and Studying so I missed a lot)
therefore I don't know many games and programs and thats why I always go by the screenshots and descriptions and that is what "entices me" to play a game, now that I have the time.
