I'm sure Chris Crawford wrote about this game (and PSB and the copy protection methods used) in his "The Art of Computer Game Design" book - freely available from Chris Crawford's web site (use google)
Yes, I'm afraid this game is copy protected in a most devious way. God that sucks - I wasted dozens of hours in college playing this and it's still a great wargame...
Not tried this one, but "Patton Strikes Back" was definitely one of the greatest strategy games ever. This looks remarkably similar.
Replaced floating files download by Disk Copy 4.2/Stuffit 4.0 Disk Image ready-to-use in emulators.
Chris Crawford was (is) a master of cunning at stopping game piracy. This sounds like something he would do if the game detected that it had been tampered with.
Unfortunately, I can't get this to run properly under any OS ver from 6 onward. Basically, from turn2 onwards your units start disappearing at random. Bizarre and unfortunate - this is still a great game.
