This is the beta (version "Beta 1") of the 1997 game, Postal, developed by Running With Scissors.
It may or may not work for you. After a certain date (not long after the beta was released), every character on screen will catch on fire and die, and the game will lag out and probably crash. I'm fairly sure it's an intentional time limit on the software. Not sure if it can be worked around by changing the computer's date back a bit.
Thanks to TheMacMeister for finding this rare piece of Mac gaming history in his archives.
CompatibilityMac OS 7.1 or higher (7.5 recommended)
68040 Processor (PowerPC 100Mhz or better recommended)
16MB RAM (with Virtual Memory ON) (32MB recommended)
2x CD-ROM Drive (4x recommended)
This version does NOT support 68k-based macs, but the final version will! The final version will also include support for 8-bit audio and feature optimized performance and reduced memory usage.
The program does not currently change resolution for you, so we recommend changing your resolution to 640x480 before starting it.
Comments
Date change on the OS won't allow the title to work. Can someone post the full version somewhere?
No man I totally forgot. I found the disc and have it sitting by my computer though so I'll rip it ASAP.
have you ripped the copy yet? because i want to play postal.
well amatecha, i hope you have posted the full postal game by now. because if not, please hop to it! i'll go look in the forums and see if its there.
Universal Binary in this instance looks like it means Intel/PPC. If you have a PPC running OS 9.2.2, and the software is "carbonised", you should be able to play the UB version. This obviously means that Fudge Pack release before 2006 are just plain PPC/FAT BINARY.
dont have a dvd drive in this, only a cd rom drive. and unless "universal binary" means "mac os 9-compatible" fudge pack would be a no-go.
on another note: this beta causes everybody in the game (includin postal dude unfortunately) to catch on fire and die, even AFTER changin the system date to a time period before august 21 1997 (the day when the beta "expires"). tried usin the cheats 'iamsolame' and 'hesstillgood' for invulnerability and resurrection respectively, and they dont change anything. as you can tell, no, the game doesnt crash but its still nonetheless (as far as i can tell, unless theres a workaround for the "everybody died" bug) unplayable.
Oh yeah, I didn't notice the original wasn't on here. I will rip my original release-day copy of the CD, will post in the forums (or perhaps as a comment on this game) when I've done so.
If you really need it, you can still buy the fudge pack...

You will need a Mac with a DVD drive I assume...
EDIT: 2006 Fudge Pack is Universal Binary too!!
well, i love postal 2 for pc (although the crashin from general protection faults is awful) so i wanted to play the original. but if the beta has problems, where can we get the final version of postal 1 for mac?
Thanks amatecha - I had serious issues with Google Chrome trying to add a new game on this site. Thanks for reposting the file too, you are a hero!
