A one-on-one fighting game.

Once upon a time, a mysterious island was discovered by a shipwrecked sailor. The island was teeming with life, including a number of species that had been presumed extinct. The scientific community rushed to the scene. Indications of vast supplies of priceless ores had been discovered by the first prospectors. Additionally, early scientific tests indicated that a strange new source of energy was emanating from the surrounding waters, and there was much excitement. Military involvement to secure the island began.

The wealthy, the mighty, and the desperate all did battle for the isle's riches, but chaos and senseless bloodshed were the only results. As each day passed, the struggle between the factions escalated with no signs of an end.

One day, a lone ninja appeared on the island. This wasn't just any ninja, but one of the unfathomably deadly seventeen ninjas of legend! This renegade space ninja had come to challenge them all!

Rather than slay everyone outright, as space ninjas have been prone to do, the ninja coldly addressed the parties involved. "If things are not settled soon, I will destroy this island and every last person on it. Surely that is not what you desire, is it?" After the murmurs of horror dwindled, the ninja continued. "However, I propose a solution to this madness, which will almost undoubtedly result in less lives lost than if things were to continue the way they had been without my interference."

And so, the ninja organized a grand Tournament. Each group was to provide a champion, to represent their interests in hand-to-hand combat, winner take all.

Looking back at it, it just didn't play like it used to.
