"Sargon was the warlord who ruled the ancient world. Patient, cunning, a master strategist...and the inspiration for the new standard in computer chess, SARGON 4.
You can set SARGON's playing strength to any of sixteen levels, and then fine tune it to get the game that's right for you. If you're a little rusty, SARGON's many teaching features (such as on-line help, chess tutorial, hints, problems, and special novice mode) make improving your play both fun and easy. And even experts will be challenged by SARGON's chess algorithm, the most powerful available on a microcomputer.
SARGON's spectacular graphics are unequaled in computer chess. Whether you play in vivid 2-D or stunning 3-D, you choose from a large collection of beautifully crafted chess sets. Each set was created by a professional artist and rendered using the latest in advanced image processing and computer graphics technology. Or use the Piece Sculptor to create your own." --Description from the back of the box.

This was indeed a very early color game for the Mac. Not many people could have actually played it in color when it was new! It can be copied to a folder on a hard drive and run from there, but be careful...it crashed my PowerBook 540c with Mac OS 7.1.1 pretty badly, and though it worked on my Pismo with OS 9.2.2, it seemed ready to fall apart at any minute.
Anyway I got my hands on it and fully digitized the disk, manual, package and everything.

I've uploaded a pic I found on the web that shows there was a color version of Sargon 4 available for Mac II's. I believe, unless I'm horribly mistaken, that the version uploaded here is monochrome only. At least it doesn't run in color on any of my systems. Anyone with original disks or packaging please post here to let us know.
It's good chess program. I play in Sargon III at Atari ST. Look at my site: www.atari.website.pl
