Guides on emulating older games

The only real Nintendo 64 emulator for Mac. I believe this is the unlimited demo with watermark. Plays Super Mario 64 flawlessly on mirror-face G4.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC

May run with carbonlib under 8.6? untested under 8.x. Not worth running a 3D game emulator under another emulator.

Strictly speaking this should be classified as an Emulator, not as a Game Utility.

In my personal opinion, Mupen64 Plus (1.5) is the finest N64 emulator out there. I have it on WinXP, Linux and OSX, it runs the same on all three!

Yes, it is free

Highly Recommended!

I tried Mupen once. It was crap. But it was a pre-version 1, so now it might be worth trying again...

But is it free?

Stop Press!

There is a Mac OS X version of Mupen64 Plus 1.5 (Intel Only?), which *IS* the best N64 emulator available. It is the only N64 emulator to play Super Mario 64 with no graphics glitches whatsoever - a world first!

It is also that good on a PC as well...

It has bad performance on a G4, Joe! The OS X version doesn't play any game well on any processor. It's too fast for a G4, and too slow for an Intel. I wouldn't recommend this to ANYONE. Yes, it's the best emu for Mac in the world, but it's not saying much.

The best thing to do would be to get a PC and download Project 64. It's the best N64 emu in the world, with a lot of very useful bells and whistles, which I won't go into detail with, and best of all, it's free. Free to download, free to use, free everything.

But as for this junk: download it and give it a try, yes, but I wouldn't buy it.

Sadly, SixtyForce has bad performance on a G3. My iMac G3 never played anything correctly. Super Mario 64 was playable but glitchy and unable to run sound* and others were simply unplayable.

* When sound was turned on, the emulator slowed to a crawl and the sound was very blocky. However, you could theoretically turn on a Mario 64 soundtrack while playing it.

Does this work with SheepShaver?
if so, that would be cool 'cuz I have a lot of N64 ROMS including SuperMario 64
