TaskMaker is a computer role-playing game for the Macintosh. The original black-and-white version was published by XOR Corporation in 1989. In 1993, Storm Impact released an upgraded shareware version featuring color graphics and compatibility with newer versions of the Mac OS. Storm Impact also released a sequel, The Tomb of the Taskmaker, in 1997.

@Pagan Thank you SO MUCH for your advice! I've been dying to play Taskmaker for some time now and was unfamiliar with the whole emulator thing, so I had no idea what to do with the Zip file Storm Impact provided. I tried using StuffIt Expander at first, but it gave me .doc files. Then I tried using HFV Explorer and StuffIt, and that gave me blank files. Finally, I installed ZipIt 1.4 into the emulator and used that to extract Taskmaker. And now, I can play Taskmaker. I wish I read your post earlier! Thank you so much for the helpful post!
This is not exactly abandonware! Serial numbers for this game, as well as all of Storm Impact‘s products, can still be purchased on the developer‘s site for a small fee of 10$: http://www.robotroom.com/StormImpact.html

Following Pagan's advice (Thanks, btw), I used ZipIt to unzip the file from the official developer's page. Unfortunately I still got a blank "document" when dragging the file from ZipIt to my folder. It should be noted that I'm using SheepShaver with OS 9.0. I figured out, though, that deleting the executable or any other files that aren't working and unzipping them again by dragging the file itself to the folder, it unzipped just fine.
One final tip to those attempting to get this in an emulator: I had an issue getting the game to run in color because I initially allocated only 128MB of RAM to the emulator. After increasing this amount, you must also edit the properties of the executable and increase the amount of memory the executable is allowed to use.
Thanks, Pagan!
IIGS_User, President People, and other people claiming you can't use zipped files on a classic mac:
Sure, it's true in general, but not if they were zipped by a mac-compatible software preserving the resourceforks. In this case, they are. (Quote from dev: "I used ZipIt 1.4 for the Mac".)
And of course, as all "Old Macintosh fellows" knows, do NOT use StuffIt or the OSX built-in software to unzip them, since that is what results in the "blank documents".
In other words, the link ( http://www.robotroom.com/StormImpact.html ) that has all the last versions works just fine. Just use either a real zip-software made for macs (for instance, ZipIt) if you're on a classic mac/emulator, or the OSX app The Unarchiver ( http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22774/ ) if you're on OSX.
Oh and BTW: if these titles are installed on your computer, and they say they are corrupted or tells you to check for viruses, it means: a) you have tampered with the files or b) you have viruses.
They were programmed not to run if their resources are modified in any way. You can read more about it if you click the link to the developer.
I got it to work! I found v2.2.3 (the latest is 2.2.4) in sit format, expanded it, and burned it to a disc. I was able to play it on my old Mac from the disc.
I found the link that jothesmo gave some time ago, but I think they were in sit format. Now they are in zip format, which will not work (Blank documents that don't do anything).
If you registered in an old version... well, you don't have to register. If you are unregistered, the code I gave in my last post should work.
In case anyone's interested, I have a registration code written down; possibly from Underdogs.

Also scrawled on here: "Taskmaker Version 2.2.3 good... 2.2 & 2.2.1 crashes with reg. #"
I checked the download of the external site, but it comes as a collection of particular floating files, zipped. Old Macintosh fellows knows that the resource fork is being lost in this case, thus the external download link is pretty useless, because of no use (files are destroyed).
Even the file from the old mac.the-underdogs.org I found in my archive is a disk image which is not readable, so I can't find a working copy. I didn't pay attention to this file before, because we have been requested to remove it - at that time (HOTU removed it, too).
Yeah, I found that site too. Recently, Taskmaker comes up with this error; "Taskmaker is corrupted", and "Check your computer for viruses and re-install from disc". It only does it with Taskmaker and the sequel.
hey guys
in case you are interested, i found an uncorrupted archive here, on the developer's site

note that it is a shareware version.
Could be a ShrinkWrap image. Known to be stubborn…
Oh yeah, it's not mounting. I already had the game, so I commented. Tomb of the Taskmaker does the same thing.
uh, is this really a disk image? It unstuffs as such in both basilisk and my regular osx, but nothing can mount it
This was one of my favorite games when I was little, and it still is! The tutorial isn't something you want to skip.
