Trist is a straight-forward game, similar to or based on Mancala, in which you move stones around a board and try to land on a square with either 2 or 3 stones in it, thus capturing the stones and making points.
To play, launch Trist and select "Tutorial" under the options menu. This will tell you what you need to know to get up and running with Trist.
Various menu settings allow you change game features to suit, e.g. The number of stones per box and your computer generated opponent's skill level, etc.
See the enclosed Read-me "Trist Docs" for more details.
Trist is a $5 shareware game, although it is not known if the shareware author Tom Gooding is still contactable or wants fees for playing this game since its 1993 release date.

Thanks. Have updated description.
The game does include a brief tutorial and the Read Me file gives brief details of how to play. It's basically just a tweaked version of the Mancala stone-moving board game.
