Uno (from the Italian and Spanish word for 'one') is a card game played with a specially printed deck. The game was originally developed in 1971 by Merle Robbins. It has been a Mattel product since 1992. The game's general principles put it into the Crazy Eights family of card games.

Gist of the game:

You get a number of cards for each round. The objective is to get rid of them before any of your opponents.
You can only play if you have a card with a color or symbol matching what's on the table. If allowed you can throw several cards of different colors, as long as they have the same symbol, and the one you play first has the same color or symbol as the previous card. If you can't play you'll have to pick up one card, which you may play if possible, otherwise it's the next players turn.

When someone has gotten rid of all their cards, the other players will get points (which is bad) for the cards they are holding.
