WingNuts: Temporal Navigator is an arcade game by Freeverse Software. Players navigate an airplane around a two-dimensional map while avoiding hazards and picking up "goodies" or bonuses. The map is initially filled with enemy planes and surface targets (ships, installations, etc) and the object of each level is to shoot down every plane, then destroy a large boss-plane. Very cool gameplay!
[Top DL]: Mac OS 8.6 - 9.2.2 only "wingnuts-1-img.sit" DL is a re-packaged WingNuts version 1.3.2 made especially for a native Mac OS 8.6 to 9.2.2 by MikeTomTom.

[2nd DL]: Included above, is the original Wingnuts v1.3.2 game in full - a .dmg file, for Mac OS X 10.4.11 or earlier. It can also run native in Mac OS 9, but requires Mac OS X to install to HD from the .dmg before playing on either Mac OS X or Mac OS 9.

Registration is not required for either.
Tested on an iMac G3 400 MHz, 256 MB RAM under OS X 10.3.9 and works great. Also tested on G4 QS 2002 Mac under Mac OS 9.2.2. Runs well on this Mac.
Despite what it claims for the Minimum Requirements, Wingnuts plays great on my 300 MHz beige G3, Mac OS 8.6 with Rage 128 card installed.
Comments
No.
See "Minimum Requirements" section, above.
After 10.5 (IIRC) it doesn't seem to change music after Level 3 or 4 like it's supposed to.
Does this run in SheepShaver?
This was my intension. - I have gone a step further. I also removed the ".app" wrapper. Its now a carbon Mac application in its own folder and it plays great on my G4.
Now that its no longer a ".app", it is accessible to earlier Mac OS's (that can run Carbon Lib) and it may possibly run on Mac OS 8.5 to 8.6 using a Mac capable of running those OS's.
I would like it if anyone with a 333MHz or faster G3 running OS 8.6 could test this out for me.Done this and YES! Works great - 300MHz beige G3, Mac OS 8.6, Rage 128 (pulled from b/w G3), CarbonLib 1.4 & OpenGL 1.2.1
Oops, this is true. If repackaging, please remember to use the .img format, not the .dmg one.
The "Rage 128 or better" minimum requirement would possibly be an issue to having this work on SheepShaver
I'm considering repacking the .dmg to a .sit and uploading to make it easier for Mac OS 9 users.
If the current version officially comes as .dmg file, the other system requirements I quoted below may be valid for an older version of the game only.
"8.6 + CarbonLib" is a system requirement that matches the Mac emulator SheepShaver, which makes that version being worth to be archived here.

It plays amazingly well on my QuickSilver 2002 Mac under a native Mac OS 9.2.2 I haven't tried it on an earlier Mac OS but as its in a packaged ".app" wrapper, I would think 9.0 would be the earliest Mac OS for this.
A really excellent game it is too, which I hadn't heard of before reading this thread. So thanks for bringing Wingnuts to my attention - I'm not going to do any work today
[Edit; 2013/08/03 AEST]: Removed link to free DL from Freeverse site (as its no longer available at the Freeverse site).
Does this d/l include the WingNuts Updater 1.2.1?
Official System requirements of this game found on Insidemacgames.com:
- MacOS 8.6 or later (with CarbonLib)
- 333 MHz G3 or better
- 55 MB available RAM
- Rage 128 or better
- OpenGL
- QuickTime 4 or later
There are some discrepancies in the description:
If it supports Mac OS 9 as well, it can't support native Intel-based Macintoshes, but should probably run with the help of Rosetta.
Ok, the file download works, the image expands as it is supposed to be, but the game doesn't work on my 5500/G3(500) (OS 9.2.2). First it says it will activate the Rage IIc acceleration, but the next message is that my OpenGL is not properly installed. I have to OpenGL that came with 9.2.2. Is there a more recent version? Or an older version of WingNuts that probably works on my System? I love this game so much...
I found a working download link on
http://mac-free.com/download/WingNuts.html
but I didn't have the time to test it.
Mirror please
I'm stuffing the version that runs on OS X. It might not run on OS 9, but I know what to do if it doesn't. Then I'll host it somewhere.
there is no torrent response at all

And that stinks to because i love this game
if i can get this file, i will upload it to my web site so other people don't have to suffer the pain of downloading 1 MB- 75 MB files over bittorrent
