This is a fantasy based fairy tale adventure designed for younger girls. Players must explore the castle and try to find a way of waking Sleeping Beauty in order to save the kingdom from the spell of an evil fairy. This game retells the fairytale of Rapunzel, a beautiful baby locked in a high tower by a jealous witch. Barbie plays Rapunzel and the story is told by Celinda, the fairy godmother. Barbie Magic Fairy Tales: Barbie as Rapunzel contains six mini-games, four of which must be played to complete the story. The other two, Dress-Up and a memory game, are available in Rapunzel's tower. Though you don't have to complete these to win the game, you can play them over and over again. Guide Rapunzel to a happy ending with her prince, Galen, by defeating the witch and breaking her broom. Activities include pitching a tent, navigating rockslides, river crossings, exploring a spooky cabin, mazes, and building rescue devices. Children can interact with characters, develop critical thinking skills, and enjoy the introduction to wildlife science.

It features several improvements over the original game, with the images re-rendered in 24-bit color instead of the original Myst's 8-bit.
