The game features 13 possible Cold War scenarios, each of which can be affected by multiple factors.

You can choose from an authentic arsenal of over 100 Soviet and NATO weapons. Use sensors, radars and sonar to track enemy ships. Crucial information on capabilities can be checked from the informative database.

Several Battleset data disks and a Scenario editor were later released." --MobyGames.com

Replay the big naval battles as either the Japanese or Americans.

Players can take total control of the battles including rearranging battle groups, managing carrier flight assignments, amphibious landings, and command assignments.

VaS is a "real-time" game that can be paused to issues orders.

See the screenshots for a list of some of the battles.

Unfortunately, I could not find the manual and the game looks like it could have a steep learning curve without it.

SANDS OF FIRE lets you drive the lead tank in a battalion of five tanks. You not only control your own tank through the simulator, but also dictate the formation and tactics of your teammates.

Each controls a helicopter, and can requisition ground units that plod relentlessly forward - but the only way to win is to escort a defenseless van all the way to the other side.

Archive includes a level editor.
