Shockwave 2: Beyond the Gate

The sequel to the 1995 flight combat shmup, Shockwave Assault. Featuring a lot more of... everything, Shockwave 2 is a definite improvement over its predecessor.

When the game sold poorly on the 3DO, EA canceled all the ports for other platforms. The Mac version was almost done however, and was completed within a few weeks. EA sold the rights to publish it to Aztech New Media and it was released in early 1998 as part of their MacPack Blitz compilation.

Shockwave Assault

Battle the alien invasion on Earth and across the solar system in your souped up F-177 fighter. Along the way, enjoy some cheesy FMV goodness in this flight combat shmup. Includes Shockwave: Invasion Earth and Shockwave: Operation Jumpgate.

Followed by a little-known sequel, Shockwave 2: Beyond the Gate.

With regards to the story, American McGee's Alice is a direct sequel to Lewis Carroll's famous book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The story begins with Alice's parents dying in a house fire, and Alice taking the blame for it. After repeated attempts at suicide, she gets locked up inside a mental institution and is slowly wasting away there before she is summoned to Wonderland again by the White Rabbit. But this time it's a Wonderland gone seriously bad and gory.

Archon: The Light and the Dark

One of the best games ever made for the Mac Plus, Archon will not run properly on almost any other hardware. (Thankfully, it's fully compatible with vanilla Mini vMac when booted from this disk image.) At fault is its use of the alternate screen buffer, a feature discontinued on subsequent models, to achieve extremely fast graphics — an eminently forgivable choice, since furious split-second action is a huge part of the game's appeal. Combined with brutal copy protection, this was enough to doom Archon to cult fandom...
