The last five humans on Earth have been kept alive for over a century by a genocidal, rage-filled computer that seeks to torture them forever. Now it has devised for them a new challenge, "a game of speared eyeballs and dripping guts and the smell of rotting gardenias."

Based on a story by Harlan Ellison, who also co-wrote the game and voices the computer AM.

Dark Seed was the first and one of the few succesful titles of the short-lived company Cyberdreams. It's notorious for using the paintings of horror artist H. R. Giger, which give this point-and-click adventure a truly enigmatic atmosphere. It's also known for featuring producer Mike Dawson as the main character and for having a strict time limit, which makes playing this game a love-it-or-hate-it kind of deal. By the way you circle around the different kind of cursors by either command-clicking, control-clicking or option clicking.

The main character, Mike Dawson, is named after lead designer and producer Mike Dawson, who also appears as the character's sprite. The fictional Mike Dawson is a successful advertising executive and writer, who has recently purchased an old mansion in the small town of Woodland Hills. As soon as he moves into the house, he falls asleep and has a nightmare where he finds himself in a place called the "Dark World" where it is inhabited by inhuman creatures called "Ancients". They forcefully hold Mike down and use an alien machine that implants an object called a "Dark Seed" into his skull.
