About Brightness Controller

Brightness Controller enhances the image quality and viewing experience of motion video applications on your NEC or Mitsubishi display monitor when used in conjunction with the SuperBright™ high brightness feature. It allows you to maintain the windows desktop and applications at a normal brightness level, while boosting the brightness of video applications such as DVD playback, Streaming Video or TV Tuner to a level comparable to that of a regular TV.

If the SuperBright™ feature is used on it's own, the entire screen is increased in brightness and there can occasionally be a loss of image sharpness. However by using Brightness Controller to reduce the windows desktop and applications to normal brightness and sharpness levels, the motion video window will remain at full high brightness providing a dramatic TV-like experience.

See the Compatibility section for more information on the types of applications that Brightness Controller will work with.

Brightness Controller runs as an icon in the Windows System Tray (normally located at the bottom right of the screen), and will automatically load when Windows starts.

System Requirements

Using Brightness Controller

To use Brightness Controller:

1. Enable the SuperBright™ mode on your NEC or Mitsubishi display monitor (see the monitor User's Guide for specific instructions).

4. Click on the Enable checkbox to activate Brightness Controller.

Support and Troubleshooting

Brightness of desktop doesn't change

Problem: Background brightness level for windows desktop and all applications other than video applications doesn't change when you adjust the Background Brightness Level control.

Solution: The video graphics adapter and driver you are using may not support the necessary functions in order to perform the brightness level adjustment. Try downloading and installing the latest versions of the video display drivers for your video card. If this doesn't solve the problem, then your video graphics adapter hardware may not support this function and is not compatible with Brightness Controller.

Brightness of DVD or TV window also changes

Problem: The brightness of the DVD or TV tuner window also changes in brightness when the Background Brightness Level control is adjusted.

Solutions:

1. Download and install the latest version of Direct-X from Microsoft.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.asp

2. If your DVD, Streaming Video  or TV tuner software has an option for "hardware acceleration", make sure it is enabled.

3. Some video graphics adapters may require that a lower video resolution or refresh rate be used. Try adjusting these in the display properties control panel.

4. The DVD, Streaming Video or TV tuner software used to view the motion video may use a method of displaying the video that is incompatible with Brightness Controller. If possible, try using a different software application to display the video.
