The Apple DVD Player is a full-featured, software only DVD player for Mac OS 9.1 and later. This version adds unified support for all Macintosh G3 and G4 models that shipped with AGP graphic display cards, including support for both the ATI and Nvidia graphics cards. It is not compatible with the DVD hardware in the Power Macintosh G3, PowerBook G3, and Power Mac G4 (PCI graphics) series computers. - Unless patched for use on unsupported hardware, then you can use this software on those Macintosh models and others.
Official versions of the Apple DVD Player 2.7 and earlier mirror (Max1zzz's).
[Top DL]: Apple DVD Player 2.7
[2nd DL]: Patch for use in Unsupported Hardware. Applies to Apple DVD Player version 2.7 only. Use Tome Viewer to extract contents of the Tome file included with the 2.7 Player installer files.
[Manual]: The "Read Me" SimpleText doc is included in with the 2.7 installer files. Added here in PDF format.
For Mac OS 9.1+
It is possible to have this working on Mac OS 8.6 (and perhaps earlier) if you replace the 8.6 Apple CD/DVD Driver, ISO9660 File Access, Foreign File Access & UDF Volume Access Extensions with newer copies from a Mac OS 9.1 installation. - I'm able to view DVD's on a beige G3 with a Rage Pro 128 PCI graphics card, the patched DVD Player, plus the CD/DVD driver extensions from Mac OS 9.1, now running OK on a Mac OS 8.6 system.
