I will test the version downloadable from the original website myself. It is the same version I uploaded. If this version is corrupt I will upload my own version which I still have as the original archive as well as a preinstall. Also, I can upload the preinstall anyway in case you have problems to mount the smi on emulation. Please give me time until tomorrow.
Re your question what DMG Mechanic does: if you drag an image on this it changes or repairs something with the image that got lost during the web transfer - what exactly I never tried to find out, because I am computer stupid and lazy. Instead I was trying to drag out the answer from you...
@xy: The uploaded file expands to .smi, but the IDs were lost somewhere. To have it "self mounting" again, the IDs must be restored. I'm afraid I do not know what DMG Mechanic actually does.

After inflating the file should be changed to creator ID "ddsk", file ID "rohd" to make it usable.
