thanks - I changed the filename to ".iso" and then used XP to burn the cd, this worked for me. Some time ago converted SpInside Mac to pdf (like a true Geek would) - will be interesting to see the differences.
When downloading files from the web, double-clicking is never the way to go. Drag and drop. Always drag and drop. Open Toast, drag it and drop it onto Toast, specifically the "Disc image" tab. Or if you're using Mac OS 9 or ealier, use this: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/virtual-dvd-romcd-utility
.toast = .cdr, which should be the same file format.
So I think you could just change the file extension and try again.
I can't seem to open this file. Sure it unzips on both Mac and XP but the resulting image file is InsideMacintoshCD.toast which also has both file types set as "text" so my Mac thinks its a Simple Text document. XP doesn't know what to do with this file either. I imagine if I copy this to a CD all I'll get is a CDROM with a file called "InsideMacintoshCD.toast" on it. No further forward.
Can I simply change the file types so something Toast knows about? What would those types be?
Excellent, thank you for uploading this! I will mirror this as a Toast image in the Old Mac Archive in coming days.

UPDATE: And here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/file/d1o2uz199r7h1w7/InsideMacintoshCD.zip
Yep, this doesn't match to the content stored inside, which should be stored as .img.sit (or .cdr.sit).
An excellent addition... However... could you (or someone) please re-upload it in a more user-friendly format? - Not everyone who has a Mac or a classic emulator runs OS X
