As many here seem to have Windows boxes too, I wonder if anybody solved this:
I want to use some TT fonts cross platform, mostly Mac fonts on a PC. Chris Reed´s TTConverter 1.5 does the conversion all right in both ways so far. Unfortunately the German Ä Ü Ö and ß are not corectly displayed on the Windows side, although there are obviously available on the Mac. I have no idea if thats due to the converter or a Windows key mapping "feature".
I suppose there are similar problems in other languages too.
Any thoughts about missing special characters would be welcome.

I remember using 'Fontographer' correcting this in exported/imported PC TT fonts or trying to find the extended ASCII signs in English/International Mac TT fonts. Meself being Swedish have the need of å, ä, ö.

I saw that Fontographer 4.1.5 is in the Garden, but it crashes my SheepShaver setup immediately, if I try to open a file. As NativeChecker tells me it is PPC only, it wont be very promising to try BII or MiniVMac. Do you recall what kind of setup you used SwedeBear, should I power up my iMac?

I use Fontographer 4.1.4 which is also here at the Garden. I use this in preference to the 4.1.5 version here because the 4.1.4 version has the full set of installers for Fontographer. This includes 68k with FPU, 68k without FPU and PPC installers.
If you'd seen this page earlier you might have noticed my comments on how to run Fontographer on SheepShaver
Basically, the only way to get it to run on SS is to "Custom install" the 68k Non-FPU version instead of the PPC version (which will not play nicely with SS).
I assume that 68k Non-FPU install would run on Mini-vMac too (untried by me so may or may not).
My Basilisk II setup has FPU enabled, so I installed the "68k with FPU" version on that (runs really well on B-II).

Speaking of accent characters, anyone here ever seen written Vietnamese? Take a look: http://vi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trang_Ch%C3%ADnh
Apparently they once used Chinese characters but adopted the roman alphabet under French rule, with accents to make up for the shortcomings of only 26 letters.
Also related to fonts, I have some software complete w/packaging and manuals that I plan to upload, once I get some other projects out of the way: The Art Importer (create PostScript fonts from your existing Macintosh artwork), Metamorphosis Professional (Convert your fonts into a variety of formats for different computers), and FONTastic Plus (Bitmap font editor for Macintosh). Also a couple versions of Ready, Set, Go! publishing software. I'm not terribly interested in this stuff, but the age of it and the fact that it works on a Mac Plus seems to me worth the trouble of uploading.

I think I see what you mean MCP, with my few German funny characters.
I guess the special characters issue is rather charmap related than a conversion problem, as Windows displays some other funny characters instead of the desired ones.
Metamorphosis Professional sounds promising, did you try that one in Mac emulation by chance?

Haven't tried any of the font or publishing software yet; I've got a big queue of games and things still to upload. I will be uploading with full docs and disk images Star Fleet 1, Hellcats over the Pacific and its expansion, Citadel v1.22 and its Secrets book, just to name a few. Could be more apps if a contact I made online ever gets around to providing me with the list of software he wants to get rid of. Supposedly '80s and '90s Macromedia related stuff.

Fontographer 4.1.5 does the trick on my iMac G3!
So lots of thanks for donating this very useful piece of software to the Garden.
Seems there is not much to do, except for changing "Generate Font Files" to Computer=PC and Format=TrueType.

You may have to change your character set in Windows. I'm sure "modern" mac OS's ie. OSX use UniCode by default (International system pref) but Windows may still use Roman or Western European ISO8859 by default if you install in a Western European language. Note that this also affects other things like Sort order (bottom right in OSX International sys pref) so accented letters can be sorted next to their unaccented equivalents.

I remember the config.sys and autoexec.bat calls for character map and keyboard.
I am rather clueless how such things are done on more recent OS like XP, Windows7, Classic and OSX.
Would be cool if you could enlighten me, of course. If I could have one unicode mapping throughout my systems and the German keyboard working, it would solve the accent character issue as a side effect.

Probably neither. IMO, there should be a distinct Macromedia section like there is a Claris and Adobe section, as the Macromedia inventory was at one time, quite large. e.g. Fontographer, Flash, Fireworks & Freehand could all be moved from "F" to "M" under the Macromedia banner, for starters.
That linked manual is different than the manuals I already have, it appears to be a converted E-Doc, looks like it could be OK if it got reworked (with added hyperlinks & bookmarks). Not overly impressed with how they make you obtain it.

Maybe TransType will do the job, too. However, I never tried it and it's not abandonware:

Yeah but several different companies were merged or absorbed into Macromedia. If it was indeed published by Macromedia then it will show up by clicking on the publisher name, but if it was one of the other companies, then there should just be a link in the description area. Maybe just a mention of Macromedia with a link to a Mac Garden publisher search for "Macromedia." This is what I'll try to do when I upload or edit their pages.
Searching for pages by clicking on publisher, genre, or year info is a great way to browse.

And also developed by Macromedia. Freehand went from version 5 - 11, Flash, vers 1 - 7, Dreamweaver, vers 1 - 8, Fireworks, vers 1 - 8, Director, vers 3 - 10, etc.
Every major software company purchases, merges or absorbs software from elsewhere, Adobe is the prime example of this, eventually acquiring Macromedia.
However, Macromedia while it existed wasn't in the habit of acquiring software and letting it languish, it developed some of the most important programs seen on any platform of that time.

I noticed nobody mentioned fontforge. The interface may be crude and complex, but it has a lot of "features"

How about something that converts Chinese Mac Truetype fonts into working Windows .ttf fonts?
