For the second time, my iMac (G3) has unexpectedly shut down, with the fan slowly spinning down and the power light eventually starting to flicker.
It can happen at any time, but after one crash, I lost the ability to use StuffIt.
Apparently, it's now missing "InterfaceLib--GetComponentResource", which allows it to use StuffIt Expander. But I used StuffIt to expand a .sit earlier that day...what happened?
I am using a 2000 slot-loading iMac running 9.2.2.
You didn't mention the version of Stuffit but I'm guessing its 7-ish? Possibly QuickTime libraries are corrupt, try reinstalling QuickTime (which installs the InterfaceLib) ... Or use an earlier version of Stuffit. Version 5.5 is good and doesn't depend on "InterfaceLib--GetComponentResource".
Sounds like you're having (or developing) more serious issues with this Mac, so tread carefully and keep that data backed up.
Wait, InterfaceLib relies on QuickTime?? I had disabled QuickTime 5 in preparation for installing v6. Well, that's great!
Unfortunately, that doesn't solve the problems of these random shutdowns (the first one happened on November 4th): I noted in a chat with my brother that "the power light was still on, and there was a "whiff-whiff-whiff" that was slowing down. The power light began to flicker."
I have started to back things up, and I haven't yet installed SheepShaver on my Mac.
