Another great dump find!

Just found a fully working computer at the dump.

Had a 2.6GHz Athlon64 X2 installed, but I quickly replaced that with a 2.5GHz Phenom X4.

Here is the mobo info...

Also came with a Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty sound card, with full breakout box (front panel). Awesome. The sound (even playing default Win7 mp3s) was incredible. There was unexplained clicking during games, so I removed the card (but kept it), and I am using the built in ALC888 audio.

I tried getting Snow Leopard OSX86 installed on this, but it was WAAAAAY too much work. Spent about 5 days(nights) on it, and then gave up. I could get it installed, but could never boot off the hard drive.

There is now a 64bit Lion kernel (10.7.4/5) available, so may try installing Lion on my existing Phenom II at some point.

I had 4GB of DDR2 667MHz RAM laying around, so have a perfectly working machine... Running cool and quiet as well (except for the case fan, which is hardwired in -- will need to use the scissors here I'm afraid).

Also installed Xubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail on my other Phenom II box, running sweetly.

Smile

It's "Inorganic Week" in my neighbourhood - a week once evry two years where residents put out their old rubbish that is too big, or unsuitable for the regular rubbish collection. Sofas, old furniture, etc are prefomnant, but doesn't stop me looking as I walk past. Nothing from Apple yet. Don't think I'll get anything with Intel, but hoping for a G4 or G5.

Hm, five days ain´t much for OSX on AMD. Smile
The GeForce 6100 / nForce 430 mobo should work with Snow Leo. Same for the Athlon64.
The mGPU will not work with QE/CI of course.
Did you try Nawcom´s Mod CD 0.3.1 and a 10.6 retail DVD?

Using an old one -- http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5706/img5051x.jpg

I am downloading Mod CD 0.3.2 now, and might give that a try soon.

I am using a 9800GT, but can only use VGA, as my monitor only has HDMI/VGA, and DVI->HDMI cables or adaptors do not work Sad

More news as it comes to hand.

The pict of the boot CD is looking familiar to me - I did not see much difference between 0.3.1 and 0.3.2.
I was using 0.3.1 mostly and all my oldies did run SL finally. You will know that AMD rigs running 10.6.2 or higher need a patched legacy_kernel, as support for many cpus was dropped with 10.6.2.
Nawcom´s Mod should install legacy kernels if needed depending on the OSX DVD you are using. If you plan to upgrade, matching legacy_kernels must be installed manually after combo or delta upgrades before restart.

Except for the AHCI setting, some NV boards may need "USB Legacy" disabled in BIOS.

If possible I would dedicate a separate HDD to OSX as the OSX HDD is best partitioned GPT.
Dual booting with W7 from a GPT HDD is possible though.

If the 9800GT is not picked up properly with Chameleon, you might look here: http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=hack1&action=display&thread...
Chameleon 2.1 and 10.6.4 or higher should run the 9800GT with "graphicsenabler=yes" in your Boot.plist.

In case you should suffer from frequent Finder freezes, you might try PathFinder.

(Lets hope mods and admins dont mind the off topic blurb Smile . OSX86.net is the place to discuss Hackintosh, of course.)

Please believe me 24bit, my 512MB 9800GT will NEVER support DVI->HDMI. I have tried injecting different 8800GTX bios with Chameleon etc., but it will never work. I'm almost certain that DVI->DVI will work, as I have tested it before.

I cannot disable USB Legacy, as then I cannot use the keyboard/mouse to boot with flags. I probably need to find an old PS/2 mouse and keyboard, except this mobo only allows ONE ps/2 device Sad

I am dedicating an entire HDD to OSX. That AquaMac thread doesn't exist anymore...

Legacy Kernel is sorted, I have working legacy kernels to 10.6.8, and one for 10.7.4/10.7.5 when the time comes.

The only issue I used to have was About this Mac crashing the Finder, and I worked around that with a custom SMBIOS.plist or similar.

I think I will place this firmly in my too-hard basket, as the nForce 630a and nForce 430 chipsets are notoriously difficult to work with.

PS. If you think I can set it up using an existing Lion iMac and external HDD, please point me in that direction. Cheers.
