[SOLVED] At the end of my rope: Power Adapters for a Powerbook G3 Lombard?

I recently acquired a Powerbook G3 (Lombard) 400mhz. It did'nt have a power supply. So I bought one on Amazon!..... well technically I bought two! They are below in the picture:

Adapters: http://i.imgur.com/YJY1E.png

The Bottom one has a bunch of computers in it...alright...sure, it also has the Powerbook G3. Alright, so I can take the blame for this one being the wrong fit, it's for a more modern iBook. I suck it up. Contact the seller, they're gonna let me return it, etc.

SO I ordered the top one..... I did my research this time. All those models say the Power Adapter are compatible between them.....so this has gotta be right, right?

WRONG. It's literary THE SAME Adapter as the first one I bought. It doesn't fit, it's NOT for the Powerbook Model.

Where can I get an Adapter for a Powerbook G3 Lombard that isn't really gonna destroy my wallet? :-/. I'm at the end of my rope, and I've wasted a week or two already with this crap. Sad.

SOLVED!

Finally got this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050DK5UW in the mail. Worked great! AND my Powerbook works too!

Do you have an Apple Part Number of the item you're looking for, or the specs that it has to meet? That would be the first step to finding the right item, since you can't find anything unless you know what you're looking for.

I need a Power Adapter for a Macintosh Powerbook G3, 400mhz aka- "The Lombard.". I know it (The Computer, not the Adapter.) has the Family Number M5343. But that's all I know. :-/.

erm...gonna need something that accepts Amazon Payments sadly. :-/ That's gonna be the only money I have as soon as I get my refund from these greedy folks who sold me a mislabeled product. Tongue

I spotted this ad: "NEW Power Supply+Cord For Apple PowerBook G3 333 Bronze KB/Lombard 400". But at $27 (includes shipping) its more expensive than the one Mulder linked to.

Then you can get this one instead from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Apple-Power-iBook-A1021/dp/B002AQDQ8K/

...that looks EXACTLY like the two I got that don't work. So no. Not even /trying/ it.

Is this it and what they look like? It appears to be a genuine part. Ebay auction Apple Bronze Lombard Pismo G3 YoYo AC Adapter 45W - asking $19.95 + shipping tho'.

[Edit] I'm not so sure. Even tho' auction claims it suits a Lombard/Bronze too, it looks to me the yoyo is from the clamshell iBook... YMMV here.

There are quite a few of these PSUs on eBay all purporting to be new replacement Battery Power Charger for Apple PowerBook G3 Lombard. The cheapest are being sold by the trader called "ottoman_trade". The auction above is for $4.58 + $7.41 shipping.

For comparison, I've located a photo of an actual Apple Lombard power supply and it also looks very much like the ones for sale by ottoman_trade. This photo is in another eBay auction. This auction is for a G3 Lombard, including original PSU. The pic of the PSU is in the group of photos showing off the auction (to the left, near top of auction page) you have to scroll the little window of pix down to see it (under where it says "Mouse over image to zoom"). HTH.

Geez, those bottom two look identical to the two that don't work?! Can't anyone find an Apple one? even if you need to buy a broken Lombard with it?

The thing is IIRC the adaptors for Mac-/Powerbooks are the same to the specs. The plug however differ in size though the 'look' is the same. I bought/got a adpator for an early iBook/Macbook; a white boxy thing with the Apple on the side and two stands to be folded or wind the up the cable on.

The plug was too small for my 'Kanga'/G3 Powerbook, so after doing my homework I got myself a stereo telephone plug 3.5 mm, my soldering iron and tounge in cheek. It´s not the smartest plug and I´ve lost the light from the plug telling if loading or ready, but it works. Smile

Yeah, I figured out a plug like that fits.....but I don't wanna take the chance and screw up my Powerbook. :-/ , That, and I don't have any Soldering Irons or even Electric tape. ;P.

I don't know about third-party replacements, but any Apple power supply for PowerBooks 1400/2400/3400 through Pismos and clamshell iBooks are interchangeable. I know it because I do it all the time. For models after that, I don't know. Hell, I have a Duo power supply I've used to power a WallStreet model.

Hey guys, I appreciate all the help! But I kinda /do need/ something from Amazon.... all my money atm is in Amazon Payments from more or less working Mturk.com to get money to buy said power supply.... :-/. I guess I pretty much worked my ass off for nothing through, because, well....you saw. ;P.

So far I guess I'm waiting till next month and see what the local brick and mortar stores want for a power supply. :-/ IF they have them. There's a few Mac specific independent stores in town.....

In Phoenix, AZ btw. ;P.

The Canadian auction has the original power brick for the Lombard. I had a Lombard and carried it on the plane twice a week for 4 years. It has the figure-8 power socket and a thin power cabloe that pointed back exactly like in the photo.
The photo of the power brick from Ottoman Trade looks far too thick.
The titanium yo-yo power brick is for Titanium PowerBooks (and maybe iBooks). It doesn't fir a G3 Lombard - I tried my 500MHz PBG4 power supply on my Lombard - no dice - I had planned to leave one PSU at home, one at work / 2nd home and not have to carry the PSU between them.

I think you'd be spot-on there bertyboy. And themacmeister might be right too - get a broken Lombard with power brick...

I spotted this one on eBay and its in the US too. If you look at the pic you can just make out the power brick. It has a dead battery and boots up to a screen, so something must be powering it OK. No HD or OS, so its good for parts and possibly won't go for more than the asking start price of $15. Theres 6 days left in the auction.

I've been using a Duo AC adapter for my Lombard for years without any problems, and that same adapter worked for a Clamshell iBook. However they used the same model number for both the G3 and G4 yo-yo adapters.

Anyway, the diameter you're looking for is 9.5mm, (compared to the smaller 7.7mm.)
This adapter here: http://www.amazon.com/Notebook-Adapter-PowerBook-Firewire-blueberry/dp/B...
Also sold by E-bundle, claims for work for the Duo, iBook G3, Lombard, etc. The fact that it mentions Duo might mean it's different from the other one you bought from him. Be sure to contact him and have him confirm it's 9.5mm.

PowerPup is on the money, although I would die before buying an el-cheapo power brick from China, especially when there is a YoYo original for sale. Dunno why you are so stuck on Amazon either. eBay is far superior for technical items.
