An end of quite an era. R.I.P.

I recognize that we have lost one of the most creative minds of this planet and more objectively speaking, the one that set out to bring quality and simplicity for the rest of us.
I will not be a hypocrite to say I liked him very much, because what makes me love the world and Apple are a set of factors that began with the interface of the Mac OS 7 operating system and came in great evolving experience with others such as iPod protudos , and soon iPhone iPad; Macintoshs have used before and my venerable Newton. It is important to confirm that I recognize and respect Steve for his proposal and not so much by metods.
Sure going to miss it.
Your proposal will echo for a long time in all hearts nerds.
Be happy where you are.

Não vou ser hipócrita em dizer que gostava muito dele, pois o que me fez e faz amar o mundo Apple são um conjuntos de fatores que começou com a interface do sistema operacional Mac OS 7 e veio evoluindo na ótima experiência com os outros protudos tais como iPod, iPhone e em breve iPad; já usava antes Macintoshs e o meu venerado Newton. Yep I think it's just the more squared-off sharper shape and the lines across the front. Indeed, it's my favorite B&W compact Mac!

Well, I won't miss steve. He was a tyrant who treated everyone who worked for him like dirt. As a customer, he treated ME with such arrogance that I will no longer buy an apple product. He took a lesson from sony and almost single-handedly defined the term "planned obsolescence".

Good Riddance.

I've heard this when other people died. He's an angel. He's the devil. You know what? He was just a guy who was in the right place at the right time and made the most of it. Personally I wouldn't have been impressed with his biography except that he really seemed to learn a little humility and turned things around when he returned to Apple, and had some really profound things to say in the process. And there's a whole bunch of geniuses over at Apple who really didn't seem to mind working for him...

Balrog, that exactly is the thing, Mr. Jobs was not just the right person at the right time. He made some things possible which without him would not exist. He was one of the few persons and maybe the only salesman so far in history who actually created a future.
The question is, however, were the things he created good and healthy for mankind? Many people like his stuff. I, however, was never interested in anything he sold after the Powerbooks G3:

Mac OS X: A sluggish operating system with an ugly interface. It would have been better to develop BeOS.
The iPod: This device is about to destroy many ears.
The iPhone: This is simply the predecessor of the "äppärät" a clever and seductive device to control wo/man and make them more and more stupid. Not to mention the heavy electronic smog of this item.
The iCloud: Not Steve's invention but shows his intentions: total control over all his customers and the people they communicate with.

Pixar: Digital animation will never reach the artistic quality of handmade animation.

Mr. Jobs was very much interested in art, music, etc. But as a matter of fact, through the digital revolution exactly this has become of a lesser quality. Art, music, literature are handicrafts which need an inspiring environment and tools that are not digital. Also, the arts need people who communicate with each other through real face to face conversation instead of the iPhone.

The ancient Romans said: "de mortuis nil nisi bene." However, the Romans were a bunch of ruthless conquerers and gangsters who destroyed many interesting cultures and live styles. They were very much interested in concealing their crimes. This worked: Until today many teachers and politicians praise the historical legacy of the Romans. This should not happen with Steve Jobs. He may rest in peace but he was looking out for fame and publicity. One sided and naive praise by his fans only confirms the estimation that he was a clever salesman who nurtured and cultivated peoples inborn stupidity.

@xy: I've used OS X, the iPod, iPhone, iCloud, etc ... all of them are great, and I'm glad they're around.

As for looking out for fame and publicity, well Steve Jobs wasn't someone who spoke much in public, that's for sure. Of course he's not perfect, but what he did had a great effect.

xy, you make some very interesting points that I have thought about a LOT over the years.

Indeed, while I enjoy the iPhone, and am interested and intrigued by the new innovations in iOS 5 (such as iCloud), it IS also alarming to me. I mean, I tried out "Find My Friends" app, and I can literally see my friends on a map, their exact location - there's no reason Apple couldn't access this same data (not to mention the cellphone companies). As well, syncing all your emails, contacts, and other iPhone data into "the cloud" = all your data on Apple's servers. I mean, it's cool/fun, but it should also be cause for concern for every person using these products. This type of data collection can be very dangerous and indeed be a step toward technology being used to control the populous. I know it sounds weird, but it really is the case... We no longer have full control over our data like we used to when the internet was a very new thing. Now, we all use hotmail, gmail, Yahoo, and so on... and our whole "lives" are stored on corporations' servers, obtainable by government without our knowledge through court orders or even just malicious employees.

Ah well, something to think about, for sure. Recently, more and more, I keep thinking that things I've seen in "Ghost In The Shell" and other dystopian future-focused cyberpunk stuff is becoming more fact than fiction.

Is the fun part simply used to seduce people to reveal all their most intimate and private data? If yes, what was Steve Jobs' part in this? Did he want this? Did he sell his shadow?

This hidden agenda concept was first popularized by Walt Disney (a TRUE legend) in his film Pinocchio. Look for the boys who become donkeys after visiting Pleasure Island.

Walt was able to inspire genius in his people without resorting to humiliation to get it.

Find My Friends works like it does because your friends told it to put out their location. Otherwise it doesn't do that.

As for iCloud and all — well, remember we've been using Google for a long time...
