Downloading YouTube Videos

I use a Chromebook as my day-to-day computer. For many months I was able to download YouTube and other videos via a plugin.

Recently the plugin disappeared from my machine so I went looking for another one. It turns out that Google has locked out all plugins that capture video.

So I'm looking at my Powermac (Browser Classilla installed) as an alternative. How do I use Mac OS 9.2.2 as an engine to capture web video content?

Just download the crx file, go to chrome://extensions/ then drag the crx file into the window to install.

Your installation technique worked to install the extension. But when I tried to use the downloader, the message presented was: YouTube videos can't be downloaded.

Other ideas?

Forget plugins! Use clipconverter.cc (yes, that's the website link)

Thanks to both of you! Each option works for me. One caveat: clipconverter downloads a Windows spyware app each time I use it. No big deal since my Chromebook simply ignores the executable.

Sorry, never knew that because I'm using a Mac. You might've clicked the big "Download" button at the bottom of the page. You need to click the small button "Start" at the bottom to download it. Ads can be nasty, I know!

Recently I've been using SaveFrom.net which seems to work well (it says it does a few different sites as well a YouTube) - it does have the same silly "download" adverts as SuperMew98 mentiond, so make sure you click on the actual video download link. The saved video format won't play on my old Mac OS X 10.2 PowerMac G3, but works fine on the 10.5 iBook G4.

I use Firefox and the DownloadHelper add-on to download videos. The add-on also works for TenFourFox on PPC...
