Is there an audio editor for Mac OS 9 or X 10.2.8 that extracts music from podcasts as it was possible (and legal for private use) with tape recording from radio programs in the analogue days, so that one can listen to the music only and kill the spoken word in between the music? I think these tools are called audio splitters or the like.

You should be able (using Quicktime Pro) to copy and paste the audio track into a new file, then export as MP3 or whatever. Then use Audacity to edit/resave the file.

Yeah, but what do I do if I have a downloaded mp3 podcast with music and talk in between. How do I kill the talk or extract the music only? Neither in Quicktime Pro nor in Audacity I have found such a tool. Or was I too stupid?
EDIT: I did some research. You are right Audacity and QuickTime Pro can split mp3s. I found some manuals. However, from what I read the problem with these tools is supposed to be that there are quality losses from reencoding. Are there andy mp3 splitters without reencoding for Mac OS 9 or X 10.2.8?

I now use "AudioSlicer" (GPL- free) for a few months and it's very versatile!; but I've just checked in the user guide and it's for 10.3+ …sorry

I have tested Quicktime Pro on Mac OS 9. Works fine, fast and easy. There does not seem to be any re-encoding necessary. This seems to be true for Audacity only (which I have not tested, though).
